We recently connected with Kayelani Vasquez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayelani, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Boss Babes & Brunch, was founded by me Kayelani Vasquez, which emerged from a deeply personal journey of self-discovery and a burning desire to create a meaningful impact in the lives of women who, like me, had experienced a sense of not belonging.
I was born and raised in the vibrant and diverse borough of Manhattan, New York City. Growing up as a child of Puerto Rican parents, I navigated the complexities of identity and cultural diversity on a daily basis. I felt as if I was too Latina for the white girls, and too white for the Latina girls. The city around me was a tapestry of cultures and aspirations, but it could also be an isolating place, particularly for those who felt like they didn’t quite fit into a particular mold.
From a young age, I grappled with a sense of not fully belonging in my own surroundings. I observed the bustling streets of New York City, filled with towering skyscrapers and the dreams of countless individuals, and wondered where I’d fit into this grand narrative. My parents, hardworking and determined, instilled in me the values of perseverance and ambition, but I always yearned for more than just achieving their version of success.
The mission of Boss Babes & Brunch is to empower and uplift women from all walks of life by fostering a supportive and inclusive community that encourages personal and professional growth, collaboration, and self-discovery. I know exactly what it feel like to go through life and business alone. I started Boss Babes & Brunch so that no women has to feel lonely again.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was born and raised in the vibrant borough of Manhattan, New York City. My upbringing was filled with a rich blend of Puerto Rican culture born to Puerto Rican parents. From a young age, I was imbued with a strong work ethic and an unyielding drive to succeed, inspired by my parents who worked tirelessly to provide for our family.
My formal education led me to a keen interest in marketing and communications. I attended an online college later in life, where I honed my skills in these areas, preparing me for her eventual entry into my dream. At a very young age I always knew I’d be on stage. I grew up surrounded by the theaters and performed in countless plays. I never knew if theater was it or if I’d find another passion, until I realized how powerful my voice truly is. Later in life I’d say when I was 23 I discovered my passion for motivational speaking.
Though I knew what I wanted to be later in life, I spent my 20’s raising my daughter who is now 10. As a young mom, it was difficult for me to try and balance the two. I began working a 9-5 and was there for 7 years. Feeling burnt out and realizing once again that I did not feel fulfilled, I decided to leave and pursue entrepreneurship full time.
I November of 22′ Boss Babes & Brunch was founded. Inspired by my own experiences of feeling like I didn’t quite belong in certain professional settings, I began hosting informal brunch gatherings with friends, colleagues, and acquaintances. These gatherings quickly evolved into a community of women who shared a common goal: to empower one another and break down barriers to success.
Boss Babes & Brunch officially launched, initially as a local initiative in Connecticut, but rapidly expanded its influence back into t New York City and across other state lines. The organization’s mission revolves around inclusivity, personal growth, and support for women from all backgrounds, fostering connections and offering resources that empower women to pursue their dreams and thrive in their careers.

Networking should be fun, we should be allowed to represent ourselves as we are unapologetically.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Building a reputation within my market has been based off of three key factors. I call this TEA- Together, Empowerment, Appreciation.
It’s said if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. Boss Babes & Brunch values each of our members and for that reason we have been able to scale into other states and build a solid social platform. Women like to feel seen, heard and valued. TEA is a representation of just that. We stick together, empower our members and show appreciation to each industry in our community.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
This is a hard one because I feel like in business we are always pivoting. Back in 2021 I knew I had to leave my corporate career, I just wasn’t sure how to. I spent about 6 months debating on whether I should stay or go. Ultimately I made the decision to leave. I knew there would be something greater waiting for me. I have never been afraid if change and in fact I have always been the type of person to make quick decisions. When deciding to leave my corporate job, I had no idea it would take me 6 months to decide. However when I think back on it all of it now, taking the chance and betting on myself was the best pivot I have ever made thus far in my life.
