Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kay Ray. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kay, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I came to Art later in life when I turned 50 and met my husband Brad Smith who has been an artist and muralist his entire life. We have a company called Tilt Vision Art that provides mural and fine art services to commercial and private customers alike.
I have used Art to help in my own healing journey and connect with other people on a similar path.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I came to Art as a way of learning about myself more deeply and to heal parts of myself through expression with painting. When Brad and I started working together I found that we can and do help our clients get their ideas and vision brought to life with mural art. The murals not only gets our clients message across but makes the building and space a landmark and selfie opportunity for their customers.
We pride ourselves on working collaboratively with our clients. Producing high quality art that lasts for generations.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I came fro a back ground of trauma and abuse. I was told many times how I didn’t measure up or fit in. I even experienced homelessness in my early 20’s. Through it all I never gave up and always strive to do better, be better.
Along the way I came to understand that the only way my past would beat me is if I allowed it to run me instead of me running it. I found the strength to seek help through therapy and start believing in myself. Despite the odds of me making it to adulthood and functioning as a healthy and whole human being; I made it Art helped me during that last leg and continues to be a powerful tool in my toolbox.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Helping others find connections to others and to parts of themselves that need attention to heal fuels my desire to paint.
Letting people know that they are not alone in their struggle and that there is hope for anyone who finds connection in my work keeps me going.
I want to leave a legacy that last far beyond my presence on this earth of hope and continued determination for people to help one another be better, do better.
