We were lucky to catch up with Kay Georges recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kay, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I went on a weight-loss journey a few years ago. I lost 100 pounds and I wanted to find a way to maintain my weight and satisfy my sweet tooth that I have after dinner. Since I am Caribbean, we drink tea quite often, especially after dinners, so I thought it be a perfect solution to have teas that taste like desserts.

Kay, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am the owner of Teazert Tea, a unique tea business located in Brooklyn, NY. As a Black woman-owned brand, Teazert Tea blends quality teas inspired by the rich flavors of beloved desserts. I was born in Haiti and moved to New York at the age of 7. Growing up with limited resources but a strong family bond, I was taught the importance of hard work and having big dreams. Today, I am also a proud single mom to a wonderful daughter who is on the autism spectrum and inspires me daily; she recently began her college journey, a moment that fills me with so much pride.
Teazert Tea started nearly three years ago, sparked by an invitation from a friend to participate in an artisan market at the end of 2021. To my surprise, I sold out on the first day, which made me realize there was a real demand for my teas. I’ve learned there is a growing community of health-conscious individuals looking for high-quality, flavorful, herbal and specialty teas as alternatives to traditional beverages. Since then I’ve introduced amazing blends such as Red Velvet Cake , Tiramisu and Banana Nut Muffin to the mix.
What sets Teazert Tea apart is the unique concept of combining the flavors of popular desserts with the natural benefits of tea. I am proud to bring both a comforting taste experience and a health-conscious option to my customers. Above all, I hope to make every cup a special experience, one that brings warmth, joy, and a hint of nostalgia to anyone who drinks it.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the idea that being humble is always the best approach. Growing up, I was taught to stay grounded and modest, but over time, I realized that too much humility was holding me back. It kept me from fully appreciating my accomplishments and sharing my success with others. I’ve learned that it’s okay—and even necessary—to take pride in my journey and to be proud of what I’ve achieved. Embracing this shift has allowed me to celebrate my work and recognize my worth, which in turn helps me connect more confidently with others.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There were times when I wanted to quit because finances were tight, and as a one-woman show, I only had myself to rely on. It was incredibly difficult to feel torn between providing for my daughter and funding my business. About a month after I started seriously considering giving up, I was accepted into the Brooklyn Entrepreneur Academy by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. There, I found support from other women small business owners who understood my challenges. I even went on to win $7,000 in the program’s pitch competition. That support and funding allowed me to keep doing what I love, and it reminded me that resilience and community can make all the difference.
