We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kavi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kavi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I’ve always had a curiosity mindset. Art was a way to explore so many different things that were in my head. I was finally able to let go and create through so many different mediums.

Kavi , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
With the use of collage and assemblage to create compositions that are both visually arresting and thought-provoking, I am drawn to the way that these techniques can be used to bring together disparate elements to create something new and unexpected. I believes that this process is analogous to the way in which we construct our own identities, drawing on a variety of influences to create something unique.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There’s no single “most rewarding” aspect of being a mixed media artist, as the experience is inherently diverse and subjective. However, some rewards include: Expressing identity and heritage. Combining different mixed media and a combination with my Indian heritage, and womanhood allows me to explore and express intricate facets of my identity in ways that resonate both personally and with audiences. My art can become a powerful voice for underrepresented narratives and challenge stereotypes. It has been able to give me the artistic freedom and ability to connect with my community and work on my personal growth and transformation.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Working with collage has been a deeply introspective process. My goal to use my art as a way to explore my own emotions, memories, and dreams. These collages might become intimate self-portraits or abstract representations of my inner world. My mission will always be to share my work with the world.
