We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katya & Tatiana Stec a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Katya & Tatiana, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Katya Stec (Founder): Success isn’t just about hitting big goals or being the top dog. It’s about staying humble, giving back to the crew or the cause you’re passionate about, and being grateful. Lots of folks get caught up in being the best, but forgetting to lend a hand or appreciate the journey together. Real success? It’s a mix of keeping it humble, helping out, and saying thanks – making a story that’s not just about you, but about everyone around you.
Success for us at All Ages of Geek isn’t just about the glitz and glam. It’s rooted in humility, community support, and genuine gratitude. We’re all about paying it forward, especially to indie creators. See, our thing is shining the spotlight on these amazing talents that might not get the attention they truly deserve.
At All Ages of Geek, it’s our passion to feature these creative minds in interviews, check out their games, and make sure they get the media love that big companies might miss. Instead of the same old reviews, we’re all about being that launching pad for the underdogs, the unsung heroes of the creative world. Helping them take that step forward? That’s the kind of success that lights us up.
Tatiana Stec (Co-Founder): Success isn’t a shortcut; it’s the long haul, especially in the creative realm. It’s the grind, the sweat, the burning-the-midnight-oil kind of dedication that often gets overlooked. Many expect instant stardom without understanding that success is built on years of hard work and resilience. Real success? It’s the story you tell yourself when you look back, acknowledging every hurdle conquered on the journey.
At All Ages of Geek, our success narrative isn’t about us; it’s about being the wind beneath the wings of the talents we champion. We’re deeply embedded in the worlds of voice actors, indie game developers, artists, and creators—both the seasoned and the newcomers. Revisiting past reviews and interviews to witness their evolution is our thrill. We’re passionate storytellers, sharing narratives that amplify the journeys of those who might otherwise go unheard in the industry’s roar.
Katya & Tatiana, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
ABOUT KATYA & TATIANA STEC (How it started):
All Ages of Geek emerged in 2015 as a YouTube channel centered around picture book reviews and spotlighting independent children’s book authors. Our evolution began as we delved into storytelling-rich video games, noticing the struggles of indie game developers in gaining visibility on larger platforms. In 2018, we transformed into a digital hub, championing indie creators. Our content expanded to encompass reviews, gameplay, reactions, and more, catering to creators of all sizes.
Transitioning into an LLC in 2020, All Ages of Geek stands as a legitimate haven for independent creators across all mediums. Founded and run by a dynamic sister duo, our business thrives on community support through crowdfunding—truly a family venture at its core!

How did you build your audience on social media?
Katya Stec (Founder): We’re all about the niche content, but every now and then, we dip our toes into the mainstream geek trends. It’s like a little boost—getting our content out to a wider crowd. Balancing between the niche and the hot trends is key. But you know what’s even more crucial? Supporting the community.
During juggling your focus between niche and trendy, make sure you interact with your community since they will always be the ones to support you. Grow bonds. Grow friendships. And most importantly never stop giving back to the community that supports you.
Tatiana Stec (Co-Founder): Across platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook, our approach has been all about fostering a real sense of community. Getting folks to feel like they belong, you know? Our secret? Delving deep into relevant hashtags—Our focus on these platforms are deep in geek culture media like TTRPG & Indie Games, however social media research is important for ANY brand.
We’ve discovered that engaging with questions, polls, and sharing relevant photos is key to building a solid social presence. Trust? That’s the golden ticket. We’ve strived to create safe and welcoming spaces, places where everyone’s voice is heard. It’s not just about posting news; it’s about curating an experience that’s part newsroom, part chill hangout. For those taking the plunge into social media waters, here’s the key: Community is what you need! Dive into those hashtags, ask the burning questions, and share your story authentically. Make your space a place where everyone feels like they’re part of something bigger. Trust me, it’s not just about the post—it’s about creating a digital living room where everyone’s welcome.
Any advice for managing a team?
Katya Stec (Founder): Tatiana does all the management! I can’t touch too much on this! Not my biggest strength haha!
Tatiana Stec (Co-Founder): Managing a team—whether for a small project or a large-scale has the same formula. Communicate. Our projects like ‘I Married a Monster on a Hill,’ which involves over 50+ voice actors and several artists, is a juggling act. The key again is Communication—it’s the glue that holds it all together. Whether it’s through email, Zoom, or Discord, or whatever you use to chat with your team, keeping everyone in the loop is vital. Project success hinges on it; even the smallest details matter. Often, without clear communication, misunderstandings arise, and people may feel disconnected or even drop out.
In addition to communication, fostering morale is crucial. Celebrating victories, no matter how small, matters. Whether it’s shouting out a team member’s achievement on social media, a little gift card surprise, or a shoutout within the team, it’s about making everyone feel appreciated and supported. We also work closely with Icon Pro Digital Solutions to manage and design our website. Yup, you guessed it—communication is at the heart of our collaborations. Their professional yet fun approach makes every interaction, especially regarding website matters, a blast. Because at the end of the day, clear communication makes working together a whole lot smoother, more efficient, and way more enjoyable.
Acknowledging the team as more than just a number, but as individuals with unique contributions, is fundamental. Supporting them and effectively managing time while keeping the channels open ensures a harmonious and successful project flow. Trust me, with solid communication, genuine appreciation, and a little time management magic, your team becomes an unstoppable force driving projects to success.
