We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katy Lopes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Katy, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The birth of Halu stems from a spiritual awakening that ignited a strong desire within me to explore oneself. Our company is more than just a team – we are a united force committed to respecting the rights of all living beings. We believe that by leading a life of generosity and harmony, we empower a community to prosper.
Our mission is to give back and share love and gratitude through the creation of purposeful products. Each product we develop serves a unique and achievable charitable objective. When you purchase from Halu, you become an integral part of a movement that is creating a positive impact on the world – it is more than just a transaction. Additionally, we prioritize continuous learning and personal growth to make a difference beyond our own lives. This is what we stand for.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Halu’s plan came to me during meditation. Ever since completing Reiki 3, I’ve had a deep love for accessories, particularly jewelry, and I’ve been fascinated by crystals since childhood. The idea of combining necklaces with raw crystals sparked in my mind because I knew, through my studies, that natural stones are far more potent than their substitutes. With this understanding, I began creating limited chokers with crystals to wear. To my surprise, many people inquired about where I purchased them, leading me to start selling with only a few pieces in stock. I formed partnerships with other independent women who were on a similar journey, and together, we built Halu, one brick at a time. After approximately one year, I successfully obtained my Reiki Master certification in Brazil. During this time, I realized the importance of spreading this knowledge to the United States, where I resided. My family joined me in this endeavor as they recognized the positive impact that Reiki, crystals, and holistic accessories had on my personal growth. We firmly believed that these practices could benefit numerous individuals and thus, we decided to pursue them wholeheartedly. Moreover, contributing to charitable organizations has always been a motivating factor in my life. From a young age, I actively participated in campaigns supporting foster children, senior citizens, and the homeless alongside my parents. As a result, our non-governmental organization, SH11, was founded in 2005. We strive to educate children and adults about the dangers of illicit drugs through engaging and interactive methods. Witnessing the adverse effects of drug abuse on Brazilian children, we recognized the need for this educational work. Consequently, our mission revolves around creating environmentally friendly products that are consciously reused and benefit our community and the planet.

We had many opportunities to give up and go to the easy route. But resilience is our motto. Keeping following your dreams with a purpose its a great, amazing feeling, and the result is always rewarding. We are opening our first retail store at Westfield Roseville, Sacramento, CA. Keep believing yourself even if there difficulties ahead.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
All our products are hand-picked, and handmade by outstanding artists from Brazil. I also hand-picked and Reiki charged all products before sending them to the customer, I also handled all customer service as if its for me.
