We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katy Lee West a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Katy Lee thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?

My parents let me be independent. That was the biggest gift they gave me. I was never mandated to conform to social norms which allowed me to unleash my creative side and run wild with my creativity. It was a gift. As a child I had a big imagination and they encouraged me to use it. I wasn’t pushed to be something I wasn’t. I owe who I am today because of the freedom they provided when I was young.

Katy Lee, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I’ve always been a writer. At my core I love making up stories and poetry. The written word has been my muse for as long as I can remember. Throughout my life my careers have immersed me in writing: promotions assistant, PR account executive and social media manager. Wherever I journeyed in life, writing has always been with me, keeping me grounded. I decided to start an instagram account to give myself a space where I can feel free and to provide a creative outlet for my busy brain. On my account, I can share fashion, travel, poetry, short stories and even words of inspiration. Once I started I sharing, I couldn’t stop. I loved meeting people who were similar to me and some were across the world! It’s been a fascinating journey and I can’t wait to keep sharing my story with my followers. I hope to stay authentic to who I am in the moment and I’m excited to have others follow along.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

The best way to build your audience is to be authentic. People connect with Influencers who are themselves. Also, I joined some social media pods and the ladies really helped me with growth tips and I started to see real results from their advice. We support one another and committed to helping each other grow by liking, commenting and sharing one another’s posts. It made all the difference. I’m sure you’ve heard this before but consistency is key. Posting on a constant schedule really helped my profile to grow. I used the Preview App to plan and schedule my posts.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)

They are the future. I’ve only collected TopShot moments so far but I can’t wait to add more to my collection. I believe they are the trading cards of the future. Our kids won’t be trading Pokemon cards they will be trading Pokemon NFTs. It’s going to be incredible to watch how they catch on in the future! I can’t wait to watch it all happen.
