We recently connected with Katy Frazier and have shared our conversation below.
Katy, appreciate you joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Oh girl, I’ve got the exact date for you. January 3rd, 2023. I was laid off from my cushy tech job—the kind of job that looks good on paper but never really felt like me. I had spent years watching cannabis change my son’s life, learning everything I could about hemp, and dreaming of something bigger. But I kept waiting for the right time. Then suddenly, there was no paycheck, no safety net—just a choice: play it safe again or finally bet on myself.
So I jumped. No backup plan, no guarantees—just grit, hustle, and a gut feeling that I could build something real. I figured out growing, licensing, markets, and regulations one step at a time. It was terrifying. It still is. But every time a customer tells me my products helped them sleep, relax, or actually feel like themselves again, I know made the right choice. And I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the founder of Plant Lady ATX, a brand that was born from a life-changing experience with my son. In 2019, at just three months old, he suffered a quite severe stroke. As a first-time mom, I found myself in a whirlwind of hospital visits, managing his seizures, and adjusting to the overwhelming realities of raising a child with special needs. But through it all, I learned a powerful lesson from him: resilience isn’t about waiting for life to get easier—it’s about finding ways to push forward, no matter the challenges.
During this time, cannabis became a lifeline, especially CBD, which helped my son manage his seizures. I realized I needed to create something that could offer others a sense of calm, grounding, and balance amidst their own struggles. And that’s how Plant Lady ATX came to be.
Plant Lady ATX offers CBD products—tinctures, gummies, rollers, and teas—that provide relief, help reduce stress, and promote balance. What makes my brand stand out is the personal connection I have to the mission. This isn’t just a business; it’s an extension of my own story. I’ve experienced the benefits of CBD firsthand and want to share that with others who may be looking for a natural way to find calm amidst the chaos of life.
What I’m most proud of is creating a brand that truly resonates with people—one that speaks to those who need a little peace in their hectic lives. Plant Lady ATX isn’t just about selling products; it’s about building a community of people who understand that balance and well-being are ongoing journeys, not quick fixes. My goal is to help people feel more centered and empowered, no matter where they are in their own personal story.
Plant Lady ATX is built on the foundation of real, transformative experiences. My journey as a mother has shaped everything I do, and I believe that resilience and care are at the core of creating something truly meaningful.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A story that illustrates my resilience? Honestly, it’s the moment I realized I couldn’t do it all alone, and that’s when my wife joined the team. When I first started the business, it was a one-person show—I was growing the hemp, managing production, packaging, and everything in between. It was chaotic, exhausting, and at times, I felt like I was just barely keeping it all together. But the more I pushed myself, the more I realized that to truly scale, I needed to embrace help—not just from anyone, but from the person who knows me best.
Having her join the team was a turning point. It wasn’t just about the extra hands, but the shared vision, the trust, and the energy we brought together. There was no roadmap for working together as a couple, but we’ve made it work through resilience—adjusting, communicating, and learning from each other. Together, we’re not only tackling new markets and scaling quickly, but we’re proving that building a business is about adapting, pivoting when necessary, and being willing to rely on those who have your back.
Resilience for me means knowing when to push through on my own, but also knowing when to lean on those who believe in the mission just as much as I do. And having her by my side has made all the difference.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Let’s see, who has profoundly shaped my entrepreneurial philosophy? Well, The Lean Startup by Eric Ries has been a game-changer—it’s like a business GPS, teaching me the critical importance of starting small, testing quickly, and adjusting based on real feedback. I also value Atomic Habits by James Clear, which reinforced the idea that small, consistent changes add up over time. It’s like the “slow and steady” mantra, but with systems and routines that actually work.
On top of that, I’ve been seriously inspired by the stories of trailblazing women in male-dominated industries, especially cannabis. I’m all about women smashing barriers, taking names, and leading innovation in spaces where others might hesitate. Their stories have been a shot of adrenaline for my entrepreneurial journey, reminding me to stay adaptable, keep learning, and—most importantly—never underestimate the power of small steps and big ambition.
