We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Katy Ferguson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Katy below.
Katy , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job?
My first “career job” was a kindergarten teacher! I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Education and have found it to be SO helpful in my new career path as a personal trainer, nutrition coach, and business owner. Results in fitness & nutrition come from consistency- specially in small daily habits overtime. With my seven year experience teaching kindergarteners, I am used to breaking things down into simple actionable steps. With the overload of nutrition and fitness information out in the world and social media, being able to focus on the things that REALLY matter with my clients is where I thrive.

Katy , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am on a mission to squash every nutrition and fitness myth out there! Why? Because I believed every single one. Fitness and Nutrition should make your body feel: -STRONG- ENERGIZED -DAMN GOOD-
I’ve learned through my own trials and from working with hundreds of women, that focusing on habits RIGHT NOW will get you where you want to go. Goals give you direction but CONSISTENCY within habits is going to get you to that mountain top and show you the true power that has been hiding inside you all along.
My love of fitness and nutrition runs deep – I have been in the fitness industry as an athlete for 10+ years and have owned a women’s only fitness business since 2018.
As a busy mom of two littles (ages 4 & 6), I understand the struggle to find balance in life: workouts, nutrition, motherhood, relationships, social connections, and inner peace.
Let’s face it, results come from actions, not intentions. And I LOVE helping women find balance in this. REAL change with nutrition and fitness happens when you ditch the all-or-nothing mindset.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Atomic Habits by James Clear – great book that helped me in coaching people with habit forming and habit breaking. He gives real life examples about how to make real change in your life.
4 tendencies by Gretchen Rubin- amazing book to understand my clients more. We’re not all wired the same and we have different factors that make us ACT and NOT ACT. She breaks these down into four different tendencies. This really opened my eyes to make me connect with my clients better.
FitBizU- podcast by Jill Coleman. She was my online business coach for 6 months and really helped me understand the online world better. Her podcast is amazing and episodes are only 15 long, short and sweet. She’s a no BS person, so she gets right to the point!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Whew! My business partner unexpectedly left the in-person fitness classes business we had together. We had different ideas on how the company was run and our values, so after 4.5 years, she decided to leave. I was running an online business platform AND co-running the in-person. I had to decide if I wanted to continue the in-person gig anymore or just go ALL online, as I would now be running BOTH businesses on my own (and still being a full time mom!)
I decided to keep both and focus more on the in-person for a year: building that up, hiring more trainers, adding more classes, etc. Then, when that got to a good place where I could take step back, I put more of my attention to the online space.
It’s honestly something I still struggle with- and I’m almost to a point where I need to outsource some of the responsibilities.
