We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katrina Waith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Katrina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always had the idea of getting into the adult toy industry but was afraid of judgement. One day a friend threw a party and I started chatting it up with the rep there. Immediately after, I went home and began researching how I could I get into the business on my own and not through a company. Then one summer day while sitting on the porch I just decided to go for it. I applied for the necessary paperwork needed to start a business from there my journey began. This is a billion dollar industry dominated by men with little to no female representation in power. Especially women of color. I want to show women that we shouldn’t be afraid to go after things in life even if it’s not the norm.
What I get most excited about is when customers reach out to me to let me know about their experiences. I love to see women not being afraid to explore their body. While I do carry items for both men and women I only hear feedback from females.
Katrina , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into this business because I wanted to educate people about the various sex toys and how they have evolved over time. I wanted people to see that things aren’t as taboo as they were in the past. I provide a variety of sex toys, lingerie, and bachelor/bachelorette items. I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m very transparent. If I can’t answer a question for a customer I will let them know that upfront but I will also ensure them that I will exhaust all options to find the answer even if that means they take their business somewhere else. My affordable prices also sets me apart from many others. I’m proud that although things slowed down tremendously during covid I continued to push through. I want my customers and followers to know that as a small business owner, I’m open and honest. I’m opened to constructive criticism and corrections that can lead to me providing excellent customer service. Lastly, i create a special bonds with my customers to ensure they are happy and satisfied.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My excellent customer service has played a major part in my reputation. I provide quick response times and I provide timely updates on any issues that arise.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth is the best way to get new clients.
