We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katrina Scott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Katrina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I have a deep passion for my community and a relentless drive to make a positive impact on the lives of homeowners. I have witnessed firsthand the struggles and hardships faced by families grappling with the complexities of home ownership and the fear of foreclosure.
Growing up in Georgia, I saw how homeowners, many of whom were hardworking and dedicated individuals, were often left uninformed and overwhelmed by the intricacies of the housing market. I understood that education was the key to empowering these homeowners, providing them with the knowledge and tools they needed to navigate the challenging terrain of owning a home and preventing foreclosures.
As I have journeyed through life, this passion continued to burn within my heart. I witnessed countless families losing their homes to foreclosure, facing financial ruin and emotional distress. The inequities in access to knowledge and resources further fueled their determination to bring about change.
Driven by a sense of responsibility towards my community, I made it my life’s mission to ensure that homeowners in Georgia were not only well-informed but also equipped to make sound decisions about their properties. They knew that knowledge was a powerful weapon against the uncertainty and pitfalls of home ownership.
Drawing inspiration from Georgia’s history of resilience and community spirit, I set out to create a platform that would serve as a hub for homeowners seeking education and guidance.
Over time, my mission became a beacon of hope for homeowners across Georgia, providing them with a lifeline during tough times. My initiative not only empowered homeowners with valuable knowledge but also instilled in them a sense of confidence and security in their decision-making.
And so, the mission to educate homeowners on the ins and outs of home ownership and foreclosure in Georgia continues to shine brightly, illuminating the path for many generations to come.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
When it comes to clientele, I believe that they should be treated as if they matter because they do. I provide exceptional customer service it is one of the most powerful ways to retain existing clients and gain new ones through positive word-of-mouth referrals. I hate social media because I am an introvert, and I just cannot seem to find the time in the day to stop and take a photo and then post it. However, establishing an online presence through a website, social media and digital marketing so that I can reach a broader audience and attract potential clients.
My biggest and best strategy is Networking and Partnerships. Building strong relationships with other businesses or individuals in related industries can lead to referrals and new clients. This has been my go-to in all of my businesses and guess what? It still works to this day.
Make sure that your clients are leaving you reviews and feedback, People are always interested in what others say about you and your service. Also, remember to use all your tools and resources. There are tools that are available to drive your target audience to your services and products.
Establish yourself or your business as an authority in your field by offering valuable content, educational resources, or expert advice. And participate in events and conferences. Attending and participating in relevant industry events and conferences can lead to networking opportunities and potential client connections. You can also Implement loyalty programs that reward repeat customers and encourage them to continue doing business with you.
Remember, different businesses may find success with different strategies, so it’s essential to continuously adapt and refine your approach based on the specific needs and preferences of your target audience.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I was one of the many hairstylists who had to pivot in their career due to the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
I have always been passionate about hairstyling and had built a thriving clientele over the years in my salon. I loved assisting women transform through what I called “Hair Art” and I cherished the strong relationships I had formed with my clients. Everything was going smoothly until early 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
As lockdowns and restrictions were imposed to curb the spread of the virus, the salon had to close its doors temporarily. I was left with no choice but to put my hairstyling career on hold. During this time, I tried to stay connected with my clients through social media and virtual consultations, offering tips and advice on hair care and styling at home. However, without the ability to provide in-person services, it became increasingly challenging to maintain my clientele.
As months went by, it became evident that the salon industry was facing a significant downturn, and it was uncertain when things would return to normal. Many of my clients had adapted to cutting their hair at home or had found alternative hairstyles. This led to a loss of a substantial clientele, and returning to the salon wasn’t going to be the same as before.
Amidst the uncertainty, I had to re-evaluate my career and my life. I had always been intrigued by real estate and had invested in property in the past. With careful consideration, I saw an opportunity to pivot into real estate full time.
I obtained the necessary licenses and certifications. During this transitional period, I stayed in touch with my remaining clients and expressed gratitude for their support over the years. I also explained my decision to shift careers and shared with them my excitement about my new venture.
As the real estate market started to open up, I dove in headfirst, leveraging my communication and interpersonal skills to connect with potential buyers and sellers. I applied my entrepreneurial mindset, previously honed as a hairstylist, to build a successful real estate business. I used social media (which I still hate to this day), word-of-mouth (which is my best strategy), and networking to expand my client base.
Though the transition wasn’t without its challenges, through much determination and passion it paid off. I found satisfaction in helping people find their dream homes and supporting them through the complex process of buying or selling property. And also assisting homeowners with foreclosures as well.
In time, I discovered a new sense of fulfillment in their career. While I missed the camaraderie of the salon and the creativity of hairstyling, I am grateful for the opportunity to pivot during a difficult period and find success in a different industry.
The COVID-19 pandemic had forced me to adapt, but in doing so, I had discovered new strengths, abilities, and interests that I might not have explored otherwise. And in the process, I built a new path for my future, proving that sometimes, the most challenging situations can lead to unexpected and rewarding opportunities.
