Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katrina Roberts-Monger. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Katrina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I actually rebranded & launched my business under a different name about 3 years ago. Once I did this, it took off! I was once named ‘Our Little Secrets & Gifts’. When I soft relaunch, it was revealed in deep prayer that I needed to change it to ‘Busy Hands’. My hands stay in everything to ensure opportunities for wealth & prosperity. The verse that goes with the name is associated with Proverbs 10:4. Once I changed it, it was like, because I was in alignment with my purpose, every opportunity has come to me!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Katrina Roberts-Monger. I’m the owner of Busy Hands. I’m a mother of 2 kids, age 22 & 9. This business started as a hobby & heavy passion of mine, & has grown into a lucrative income for my family. This business started as just a business for kids over 9 years ago. I came up with the idea since I was a new mother again, I wanted my son to have various items that I knew would get costly, so I decided to make them for him myself. I only made clothing for him once. Every since then, it has progressed to adult clothing, gift baskets, and pretty much anything crafty! I have to be very disciplined with what I will/won’t take on. I’ve always been a crafty person, so it just comes natural. What sets me apart from others in the same industry is my ability to articulate and bring to life the design that they have in their head & my swift turn around time. The thing I’m most proud of is my ability to be consistent in a very pressured industry. Since starting over in 2022, I have branched off to launching a photo booth business, I’ve become a licensed, insured, & bonded notary public, a gift maker, graphic artist & pretty much anything my hands & mind can create.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
1.) Consistency- If your customers see that you are consistent, they will keep returning to you. 2.) Fast TAT- I pride myself on having a fast turn around time. It doesn’t always work that way, but for the most part it does & my customers are satisfied.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
People pleasing to try to keep my business going. I’ve learned that everyone is NOT my target audience. I had to learn to get to the place of that and being okay with not having everyone’s business. It’s okay to turn down clientele that is not for you. In a respectful way of course.
