We recently connected with Katrina Howarth and have shared our conversation below.
Katrina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
After having a show of my Scottish landscape paintings in a college display and selling quite a few of them – the excitement of someone enjoying them and willing to pay for them and start collecting really gave me an excitement of what could be possible.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! I was born in Scotland – my family moved throughout the UK. I am very much from an artistic family – art was always a daily thread throughout our home. I studied at the late Glasgow School of Art and obtained a BA Honors in design- during the time there I travelled – and ended up in New Mexico. I often think back and smile as I traveled and followed the sun – colors and big skies. I spent time in Santa Fe NM and found Canyon Road – I had never seen anything like it before and I so wished I could be represented by one of the galleries there. Fast forward all these years I have been represented on Canyon Road since 2000. I am known for my whimsical colorful style in oils. Landscapes, still life, florals and portraits.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part is seeing how much joy my work brings to collectors. I still feel an amazement that I did the first time I sold a painting when i sell another one. Collectors often write or send photos of their paintings in their homes and share how much light and glow the painting changes their room or their day. I feel so much joy when I paint and so happy others feel the same way.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media has changed over the years and sometimes I post a lot and sometimes not. I do feel there is great exposure for artists and great networking. Key thing is to have fun and not let it overtake you.
