We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Katrina Henderson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Katrina below.
Alright, Katrina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
In March 2023, I took my biggest risk during my daughter’s 21st birthday celebration in Mexico which was a life changing experience. For her celebration, she had one requirement for my husband and I on this trip and that was for us to go atving with them. We thought that it sounded like fun because we have always wanted to go. Well, that was set up because the atving required us to cross Jorullo bridge which is the longest suspended bridge in the world. When we saw it, we said that we were going but would take the alternative route because we weren’t crazy. Lol! Well, we set out on the trip and let’s just say we had the best time of our lives. We had such an amazing time but there were so many revelations that I received because of it and I’ll never forget it. First, it taught me to have focus on my journey no matter what because when I lose focus on the path I slip and slide because of the turns and rough terrain. Second, it taught me that I can’t be worried about my past. As I’m riding, I kept looking back wondering how far the next person was to me. As such, I was going around a corner too fast and almost tipped. This taught me to not worry about who’s behind me (my past) but stay focused on pushing forward. Finally, as we approached the bridge that we “weren’t going to cross”, I was reminded to trust God no matter what. I can’t fear the unknown just because I think it’s going to present one way. I have to keep my eyes focused and finish. It’s not about how fast I move but it’s about when I complete it. Crossing that bridge encouraged me in that I can no longer fear anything because I conquered the mountain! So those spiritual fears and emotions are nothing when compared to the natural bridge in the mountain that we crossed.
Katrina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My company, Unbreakable Memories, is not just another jewelry, t-shirt, journal, candle or home decor brand. It’s a brand that believes in the power of “Beautiful” and the memories created that can never be broken. As an encourager and creator, I have been given the assignment of inspiring beautiful through my creations. I wanted to create something that would inspire beautiful through the products created and that’s how Unbreakable Memories was born.
I specialize in creating gemstone jewelry, journals, candles, and home decor that celebrate the beautiful memories of life. Perhaps, it’s:
– An encouraging bracelet to remind you that you are stronger than the storm
– An inspirational cup reminding you to smile
– A shirt reminding you that you are unbreakable
– A journal / notebook to do some self-reflection
I believe that everyone deserves to feel beautiful, regardless of their shape, size, or color because our beautiful is defined by who we were created to be. That’s why I created the signature line, “Hello My Name is Beautiful®,” which is changing the narrative on beautiful. “Hello My Name is Beautiful®” is for:
– Every moment when you questioned your beauty
– Every moment when you believed your trials defined you
– Every moment when you believed your worth was defined by who loved or accepted you
– Every moment when you believed your outer beauty (clothes, hair, makeup) dictated whether you were beautiful
– Every moment when you believed you are accepted because of what you do rather than for who you are
I want to create a world where everyone feels comfortable in their own skin. Where they can celebrate their unique beauty in who they are created to be. I want to inspire people to embrace their individuality and create lasting memories that they can pass down through generations to come.
At Unbreakable Memories, I believe that beauty is not just skin deep. It’s about who we’ve been created to be, the experiences we have, the people we meet and the beautiful memories we create. As such, my gemstone jewelry, t-shirts, journals, candles, and home decor are not just products, but they are a reminder of the beautiful moments in life that are unbreakable.
Through Unbreakable Memories and Hello My Name is Beautiful®, I am changing the narrative on beautiful!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
For me, the lesson I had to unlearn was how to see myself as beautiful. For so long, I had the wrong perception of beauty because I was focused on what many of us see – our physical appearance. We think that we have to be a certain size, have hair of a certain type, maintain this degree and that degree in order to feel relevant or have these material possessions in order to feel successful. However, through my own journey of healing, I realized that beautiful was who I was created to be. God had to help me redefine what beauty was to ME and He had to help me redefine what SUCCESS looked like to ME. Society and social media will have you constantly comparing your journey to someone else’s because we believe that our success looks like their success. However, that’s the furtherest from the truth! Our beauty, success, freedom, authenticity, and expectations are all defined by US. No one can tell us how to live OUR lives. We have to discover that for ourselves.
So it’s because I had to redefine my own beauty that I can help others find or rediscover their own! We can discover how our beauty marks color the world beautiful!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
As a business owner, there are several models that we can follow when we create our path. For some, they are naturally gifted at what it takes to run a business. For others, we have to learn by enhancing our education, hiring coaches and mentors and just getting in and doing the work. For me, I reached out and obtained a coach because I wasn’t sure what path to take in my business. If you have worked with coaches, you know that most will tell you to pick ONE product/service and become the master of that. Don’t try and have your eggs in too many baskets! Well as a creative, that didn’t work for me. On Monday, I may be in the mood to create jewelry and on Saturday, I may be in the mood to create candles. As such, I struggled getting things started because I was trying to choose. It wasn’t until my current mentor said that I didn’t have to choose. The way that God set up my assignment with Unbreakable Memories and Hello My Name is Beautiful®, I realized that everything I create inspires beautiful. Everything goes together! As such, I had to let go of the coach and become a spirit-led entrepreneur in that I leaned into God for the direction of my company. I invited Him to the board meetings. I invited Him into my business plan because after all He gave me vision. This pivot caused me to have so much peace in growing my business because I honored that I didn’t have to choose.
