We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katrina Green a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Katrina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
2021eats is derived from my childhood and where my love for food started, at my Grandmother’s house, 2021 is her actual address number.
Katrina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am originally from Birmingham, Al and I moved to Atlanta, GA in 2010. I’ve always had a love for food, I can remember my parents taking me out to eat every Saturday as a child. My mother was the first person to introduce me to brunch around the age of 12. Shortly after moving I realized how big the food scene in Atlanta is. I started trying different cuisines and I would post photos to my personal Instagram account. Soon my social media followers noticed and would always inquire about the restaurants I would visit and ask for recommendations. In 2017, I decided to create a food blog, 2021eats, that I like to call the Food Bible of the south and beyond. 2021eats features restaurants in Atlanta and other cities I travel to around the world.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
2021eats is the total food experience that features food from the many places I travel along with restaurants in Atlanta. I like to highlight restaurants that people haven’t really heard of, local gems, black-owned businesses and fine dining experiences. 2021eats also provides restaurant recommendations, plans brunches and showcases local chefs in the community. Food is a universal language and I’m so proud that I have the opportunity to bring people together to share a common interest.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Nothing worth having ever comes easy. I found that along the way life throws you curve balls and it’s up to you to decide how you are going to move forward. I try my best to have a positive attitude in life. Figuring out which brands to partner with, how to market yourself and finding a balance between your work life and your true passion can be difficult. I’ve taken photography and marketing classes to improve my brand. You have to take that extra step, you cannot make excuses. I’ve learned that the everyday struggles make a beautiful story in the end.
Everyone is always looking for a great place to dine, a new recipe to try, or even cool places to go. This is what I live for. I enjoy passing on the knowledge of these things to others no matter their budget. Everyone loves amazing food, service and atmosphere, right? When you have a deep desire for it, it becomes effortless. When you want others to have an exceptional experience you guide them along the way. No one wants to waste their time or money, and I give it my all to ensure that they don’t. So the road I travel is for others and the pleasure in providing good information is priceless.
