We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katrina D’onofrio a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Katrina, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that being professional at all times sets you a part from other artists in the work place. Talent can only take you so far. Having a strong work ethic, being reliable and on time will leave a big impression with your clients in a competitive industry.

Katrina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Most people don’t know that I started in corporate America first as a medical device sales representative before starting by own makeup business. My husband saw my passion for doing makeup and encouraged me to go to school and get certified to start my own business. I never imagined that what I thought would be a hobby would turn into a full fledged career!
I definitely believe that my passion for helping people sets me a part and keeps my passion alive. I love waking up knowing that I’m able to make a person feel so beautiful and happy on their most important day!
Have you ever had to pivot?
There came a time when I was working my corporate job and my business 7 days a week for 4yrs straight. It was exhausting and grueling trying to manage that on top of having a 4yr old son. I struggled with balance which is what many moms struggle with in the work force. I also saw my career in beauty take off, and my passion in sales decline. I decided to take a chance on myself. One day I called my husband and told him that I resigned from my corporate position and would pursue my makeup business full time. I took a chance on myself and never looked back!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been through word of mouth and social media. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and introduce yourself to your audience and connect with them. Find your makeup style and stick with it to create a nice aesthetic on your page and connect with an audience. Display the work you’re most proud of but, also be diverse and post everyone.
