Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katrina Blake. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Katrina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
I started working in the wrestling industry in 2020 and it is something I’ve grown to love very dearly. There aren’t many women in this industry as it is a male dominated one, but there is even less Black women in this space. There are so many insightful women. Women who are knowledgeable. Women who go above and beyond. It was why when I created my Behind the Magic” WOC in Wrestling Panel, I knew I wanted women who work in various ways in the wrestling industry to share their stories, their triumphs etc.
I did something similiar when I created the Bookish Brown Girls platform which was to highlight WOC whon wrote books in various genres.

Katrina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My brand is In Kat We Trust. My brand fcosues on various things as I love many things. Movies, anime, random stuff and of course wrestling. I make videos and have interviews under my Kickin’ Back with Kat podcast talking to people in the industry. When I am working with a promotion, I host or interview. I do ring announcing and commentary as well. I’ve proud how far I’ve come. I used to hate being on camera and in ways I still do. I don’t particuarly like the sound of my voice either. Now, I’ve been able to interview people such as Madusa, Gail Kim, Mickie James, Reby Hardy etc.
I’ve been able to create a panel that has been featured in several cons including NY Comic Con and LA Comic Con.
I want people like me to succeed and be happy doing whatever it is that they love.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I think a lesson I had to learn was to stop doubting myself. I always doubted the things I can do. The things I can accomplish and while I still feel like I have a long way to go, I still think I accomplished so many amazing things. Doubt would’ve stopped those things if I allowed it.

Have you ever had to pivot?
When I was in high school, I thought I’d be a lawyer. A criminal prosecutor. I had all of these plans. I had a child earlier than intended and lost my first husband to cancer. After being diagnosed with fibromyalgia which can be quite debilitating. It changed how I live my life so I had to resort to other things that I can do outside of the norm, but that I would love to do.
That has led to my writing and working in wrestling which fell into my lap. It worked out a lot more than I thought it would honestly.
