We were lucky to catch up with Katrell The Phenomenal recently and have shared our conversation below.

Katrell, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?

Would have to say, all of the strong women that have invested into the better version of me; that am still becoming and became – are my heros.

One of the biggest being my mother, Katrina V. Platt.
She is my hero because she is an example of sheer determination, perseverance, & excellence. Her resilience is & has been inspiring. So many lessons could share and tell about.
The main lesson has been; if you want something go get it. Learn whatever it is required to learn, and be disciplined in applying myself and the learned information, in order to thrive and gain what was being sought. She also taught me about how mindset and the way choosing to look at any event or series of events in my life. That’s been one of her biggest influences and gifts, alongside music. How to maintain my composure and a positive attitude. How to look for the best out of every scenario that will and may arise.

After hearing (some of) her stories of how she grew up, it made me appreciate her strength and her sacrifices for a better life for my sister and me even more.

She’d shared with me about her time growing up in a time where people were segregated by race. She endured and experienced a period of time where other people hated her and people like her – just based off of how they looked. Out of all of that hatred and displaced anger from others, she persevered on through all challenges (jim crow / black laws, redlining, hateful racism, prejudice) to become one of the first college graduates in our family; graduating with honors. She held leadership positions all throughout her collegiate academic career.

It made me feel so honored and proud to be her Sun, and apart of her legacy.
The stories initially took me through a roller coaster of emotions, hearing some of the mistreatment, and rougher times she had to live through. She never let any of those tough times defeat her spirit, yet choose to rise above it all and the above status quo.

As an educator (Band director / Music Educator) she has made significant contributions in countless families lives, and in any community we have lived.
She taught me about self-less service and how to be a person of integrity. Stand up for what is right even if no one else is willing, and how to use tact to do it.

Her legacy serves and will serve as a reminder that anyone, regardless of their background or gender, can make significant contributions to the world through their dedication and pursuit of knowledge.

Katrell The Phenomenal, Founder, was born in Mount Vernon, New York.
Raised in Mullins, South Carolina & Kenly, North Carolina.
Honorably retired from the U.S. military,
and began operating his production company full-time, TruBrilliance Entertainment LLC(2014, Good Standing).

Our company is
named after the Co-Founders / Co-Owners, Suns, Truth & Brilliance.

TruBrilliance has been making waves independently since inception.
Now, after partnering up with Pairamilitary Music Group (Hollywood) & 100 Grand Entertainment (NC), he has joined the Mixtape Addict team (FRANCE), and most recently with Simon Marketing Agency(SC).
“KAP” also remains in allegiance with several other independent entities and brands/companies; Such as Raymond Foxworth(Ray Banks), Live Squared & Live Squared Radio, Knew-Cleus Marketing & Media Agency, Dope Boi Apparel, & Hit House Studio, H20 Sports Fitness Training. From the home of the Pee-Dee areas.

We decide to be the change we wanted to see in the music & entertainment industries. So we put together a business & marketing plan and have been executing. Step by step, & day by day. Through the strength of GOD.

We’ve been working on getting some training programs up & running for young entrepreneurs.
We’ve partnered and aligned ourselves with studio owners, musicians, engineers, producers, djs, radio personalities, social media influencers, podcasters, financial advisors, lenders, land developers, and host of other professionals and professional industries/experts – to have comprised this massive network. Whom are all subject matter experts in their respective fields and professions.

The goal is to continue to expand our network and networth.

One of the problems we solve for our musicians and performing artists as a conglomeration; we operate and own multiple professional recording studios & mobile studios. Beat production, post production, recording/tracking services, and individual consultations are offered.
We can record in a brick and mortar; CA(LA), NC, SC, GA, VA, TX, all the way out to Germany & Japan, with an engineer and/or producer if required.
As as we have personnel that we can coordinate to pull up and provide any of those services, if in one of our covered areas of operations.

Another problem we’ve been helping solve and striving to help even more – is getting the youth educated and informed about different careers within the scope of their passions.
Some children/ people just need some one to believe in them (community), the most accurate information, one opportunity, a game plan and some guidance – to truly be at maximum potential.
We’ve been a sounding board for those often overlooked and providing them a voice and platforms to be seen.

In the realm of business & brand owners and for profit ventures, we’ve been consistently successful with helping others maneuver in this digital age and assisting them in staying relevant and “seen” / “visible” digitally.
With full confidence all of our small wins shall continue to add up, as long we me maintain a standard above par.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.

Both of our Co-founders, Brilliance & Truth, are the reason we started our business, TruBrilliance Entertainment LLC. We started this brand in order to have something for them to call their own. Something for us to grow and build up together, have something to pass along to the next generations to come.
It’s named after them and has been growing consistently every year.

Any advice for managing a team?

It may not sound as simple to some as others; the secret is really obvious and evident. Take good care of your people and your people will take even better care of you (your brand/company). It’s about having a respectable code of ethics and a respect for/of other’s humanity. No one likes to feel unappreciated or degraded. Especially when they feel and when they are actually contributing themselves to a project, or invested into a brand or business in some fashion.

With maintaining high morale , involving team management, we have to show our colleagues that we care and that how they feel is important and their contributions are of value.
Receiving feedback, organically, and not using it against the people to make their time more difficult, but in order to support and encourage their ideas, that are viable and beneficial to the collective.
When they see you genuinely care and put forth effort at applying & implementing some of the agreed upon ideas, they’ll be more willing to stay and offer more ideas to help continue improve the business. Help produce even better results.
