Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to KaTisha Smittick. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
KaTisha , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
Being in the Culinary industry we are always making sure others are filled with amazing food. However we only see the ones who are in the restaurants or who can afford our services.
As a child I was taught to give back. My parents used to take us after church to go feed, clothe and fellowship with the less fortunate. So as I got older I knew that serving others that are underserved was important to me. Most will walk pass people who need us the most. I realized that after my military career and living in third world countries that we can do better as a whole. Im all about meeting people where they are and not judging them bases on their circumstances.
I vowed to myself that I would make sure that my company would give back in any capacity. We’ve partnered with may other companies and the radios stations to serve our community. I believe that its Important to work with those who need and provide them the opportunity to resources to help them with whatever they need.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is KaTisha Smittick, Army Retired SSG. I got into the hospitality and culinary industry because I love to cook and to give people an amazing experience.
Here at Mental’s Meals we provide a experience of a lifetime! Good food, good vibes and you don’t even have to wash the dishes! The things that set us apart from others is that we are apart of the process and we understand the assignment. We show up and show out for your events and create a space to enjoy.
The problems that we solve for our clients are normally when they want find other vendors for their event or spaces. We have good working relationships where we can make things happen for the client.
I am most proud of giving top quality service and having fun while doing so.
As for Mental’s Meals we want our community to know we are here to help in any possible and help facilitate and smooth evet.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been using social media wisely! When you learn how to read your analytics and capitalize off of them. Knowing when and what to post and the times are very important. But most important is knowing your target market audience, knowing when they will most likely view your post, knowing what to post, the hashtags to use, the viral songs to push your content.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My advice for managing a team and maintaining high morale is to put yourself in your staff’s shoes. Understanding that team’s work makes the dreams work. Knowing that it takes a team to accomplish the mission. The leadership that you bring to the table will be reflection of the staff that work with you. Notice I didn’t say work for you, working with your staff allows you to know them in and out, therefore you can place them in a winning position. What sense does it make to have a skill set and in the wrong job? By knowing your team you can position everyone to do the most effective job.
When doing that you can ensure that there are very less times when the team feels burnt out. I like to also encourage cross training where the team teaches each other. We are now holding each other accountable in our newly acquired skillsets as well and will take pride because they are the resident expert. By allowing that to happen it creates a high morale in the company because the trust factor has been earned.
I like to also offer incentives and time off as a appreciation to the hard work being put out. Team building events and gatherings are also a sure way of getting to know and love your team.
