The Birth of Ireora Skincare: A Journey of Love, Resilience, and Innovation
I’ll never forget the day my husband, Mark, was diagnosed with cancer. It was a moment that shook me to my core, leaving me feeling scared, helpless, and overwhelmed. The thought of losing the love of my life was unbearable, and I felt like my world was crumbling around me.
A Desperate Search for Answers
As Mark underwent radiation treatment, I was shocked and dismayed by the harsh impact it had on his skin. The radiation caused severe trans epidermal water loss, blistering, open sores and inflamed skin. I was desperate to find a solution, to do something, anything, to help him.
A Prescription that Fell Short
The prescriptions that Mark’s doctors gave him to alleviate his skin issues were nothing short of astonishing. They prescribed mineral oil and petroleum-based creams and ointments, which not only failed to address the underlying damage caused by the radiation but also posed additional health risks.
A New Path: Cosmetic Science
I’ve always been passionate about skincare, driven by my own struggles with extremely sensitive skin. For over five years, I’ve been crafting my own natural deodorants and soaps, earning me a DIY expert badge. I became obsessed with understanding the science behind creating effective, healing products. My motivation went beyond my own skin concerns; I wanted to help my husband’s skin heal and thrive. This passion led me to take a leap of faith and go back to school to study Cosmetic Science. I dove headfirst into the world of skincare formulation, learning about the intricacies of skin biology, ingredient interactions, and product development. Through my studies, I gained a deeper understanding of the complex relationships between skin, ingredients, and products. I learned how to create effective, safe, and stable formulations that address specific skin concerns.

My name is Katina Weaver Walker and I am the founder and CEO of Ireora Skincare, a luxury skincare brand that harnesses the power of natural ingredients to promote healthy, radiant skin. As a natural cosmetic formulator, entrepreneur, and passionate advocate for natural wellness, I am dedicated to creating innovative, effective, and sustainable skincare solutions.
My Journey
My journey into the skincare industry began with a personal quest to find natural solutions for my husband’s skin issues during his cancer treatment. I was shocked and dismayed by the harsh chemicals and toxins present in conventional skincare products, not to mention the prescriptions he was given by his doctors was petroleum and mineral oil based. I knew that I had to find a better way. This led me to pursue a degree in cosmetic science, where I gained a deeper understanding of skincare formulation and product development.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
As a seasoned entrepreneur and creative, I’ve learned to embrace change and adapt to unexpected twists and turns. My journey has been marked by several pivots, each one leading me to where I am today – the founder of Ireora Skincare.
From TV Writer to Wellness Entrepreneur
My first pivot occurred when the writer’s guild went on strike, leaving me without a steady income. Rather than waiting for the strike to end, I took the opportunity to explore my passion for wellness. I became a Pilates Instructor and had a successful Pilates business.
KDW Apparel and the Covid Pivot
After building a successful Pilates business, I ventured into the fashion industry with KDW Apparel an athleisure brand. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I was forced to pivot once again. I quickly shifted my focus to manufacturing hospital gowns, masks and PPE, using my resources to support the US healthcare industry during a time of great need.

My most recent pivot was sparked by my husband’s cancer diagnosis. This led me to pursue a degree in cosmetic science and ultimately launch Ireora Skincare, a luxury skincare brand dedicated to providing natural, effective, and safe skincare solutions.
Looking back, I’ve come to realize that I’m the queen of pivoting. Each twist and turn has led me to where I am today, and I’m grateful for the lessons learned along the way. Pivoting has taught me to be adaptable, resilient, and open to new opportunities. As I continue to grow and evolve, I’m excited to see where my next pivot will take me.
