Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katina Harrison. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
Our customer based has tripled since we opened in 2017. We went from manually taking orders on sticky notes to a fully automating our ordering system and customer database. Converting customers to our new way of fulfilling orders was not a easy process. We launched our first Shopify e-commerce site in the Spring of 2019. We moved our customers database from my cell phone to Mailchimp. Building our current customer base has not been easy. Initially customers were slow to migrate. We introduced our site in phases to our customers until we were able to determine what worked and what did not. We found that what worked on paper didn’t work electronically. We revamped our ordering policy, our meal plans and pickup/delivery options in 30 days. Yes 30 days because we had a 30 day trial period. Long nights, early mornings, and numerous conference calls and 30 days later our site was was redesigned and working.
Today I think our customers appreciate the ease and flow of our newly redesigned site. We’ve grown from 78 customers to almost 400 in our database. We’ve achieved this from customer referrals, SM marketing, promotions, and gym partnerships. Some of our brain storming ideas worked and some didn’t. But what has paid off is our consistency and determination.
We have a social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Google.

Katina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Katina L. Harrison. I started Elle Wellness the parent company of Perfect Portions Atlanta in 2017 after becoming a certified Health Coach and Weight Loss Specialist. I started studying health and nutrition because I didn’t want to be a statistic of generational food related illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke and obesity. My mission is to create a healthier Atlanta. I want to show and teach people (especially people of color) that a diet of clean eating doesn’t mean bland or boring. It just means you’ve omitted all the additions your body doesn’t need such as artificial color, sweetners, by products, filler and preservatives.
Although our niche is portion control. We give our clients a full service meal prep experience by taking the guesswork out meal planning, shopping, cooking and calorie counting. It’s a win win for the clients. They get their time back and receive freshly prepared meals that are made from natural fresh and organic ingredients. In addition to meal prep we offer personalized coaching services, cooking classes, detox solutions and enhanced body services.
If you are new to Atlanta or considering a local meal prep delivery service we’d love to service you. Check out our reviews on google or visit our website perfectportionsatl, coach to chat with one of our customer service reps.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The key to building brand awareness and the trust of your future or current client is consistency. People want to see and know that you are who you say you are. Even during tough times they are watching to see if you weathered the storm or did you give up. When people see that you are consistent about your product or service then they trust you and trust is paramount in building your reputation.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My left and right hands aka my business partners are my cousin and my best friend. My cousin Karen well Iv known her all of her life. Our grandmother’s were best friends. Our mothers are sisters and we are what I call sister cousins. She’s the engine and the oil to everything pertaining to Digital Marketing. My other partner Megan (left hand), I met over 15 years ago while working in corporate. Shes been by my side since the birth of this company.. If she has to she’ll get in the kitchen but really she’s all things numbers and reporting. It’s funny how our different strengths and weaknesses compliment one another. I couldn’t ask for a better team.
