Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katie Tschida. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I were to start my business over today, I would start by listing out all my ideas for what I wanted to do in my business and start consuming all the free resources that are out there and doing research into the best branding and business coaches so that I can set up my brand in the beginning and start attracting clients right away instead of trying to figure out how I want to present myself while trying to get clients.
I would also start with a clear plan for how much money I need to make in order for me to have a successful first year. This will give me something to work towards as well as help me remain focused on what is important for my business.
Finally, I would create a simple plan for how long it will take before I reach my money goal. This will help me stay motivated during the process, especially if things don’t go as planned or if other obstacles come up along the way.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a homeschooling mom to 3 kids who, in 2020, decided to take the plunge and become an entrepreneur. I have since specialized in being a digital organizer and accountability assistant, helping business owners tame their overflowing inboxes and meet their goals. With her assistance, business owners can keep a sense of organization and direction in their work.
I love to travel and create memories with my family. She believes that the experiences gained through travel can be a valuable learning opportunity for all.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There are 2 books that I have read that made a world of difference in how I think and operate.
The first one is “The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks. It was a book selected for a business book club that I was participating in, and it helped me see my “upper limit” problem and ways to work through it. Any time I hit resistance, I take time to see if I may be reaching a new level that I need to work through.
The second book was “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. It really helped me look at ways to break down big things and turn them into smaller actionable items that, when accomplished, made me feel great because I completed a task.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
It took a lot of courage, resilience, and hard work, but I was able to make my dream of having a virtual assistant business come true. I had wanted to be a virtual assistant since 2010, but I didn’t have the experience that many of the jobs required. Thankfully, I found a coach who helped me get started with my business, and I was able to use her courses to learn how to start my virtual assistant business and work towards becoming a digital organizer. It was a difficult journey, but it was well worth it in the end.
