Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katie Rose. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
The first client I ever booked (that was non-family/friend) was as magical as my entire business has ultimately become. As the mom of two small children at the time (3 and 4) with an adjunct teacher’s salary my start-up costs for my Human Design business were… limited.
I did however know that I really wanted professional photography done as part of the launch. It was also very important that the images felt like they represented, well, me. I had a vision for the photographs I wanted; set in a natural environment, playing with the light and shadows, and –most importantly– felt feminine yet powerful.
I came across a photographer local to me (Katie Kiely) and I fell deeply in love with her work. The more I viewed her art, the more I felt a strong resonance inside of me that beat a continuous drum of, “This is the photographer. This is the photographer. This is the photographer.”
The only problem was that while her price was more than fair, it was also almost all of my limited start up budget. I researched and researched and found plenty of photographers that could do a shoot at a fraction of the cost, yet none of them left me with the deep sense of alignment I felt looking at Katie’s work.
So, I listened to my intuition. I booked with Katie and not only did I feel comfortable and beautiful at the shoot, I also felt deeply connected with Katie herself. As soon as I had my website launched, I sent her a link thanking her for all she had done. Shortly after that Katie herself booked a reading with me.
Not only was this significant as my first booking, but it was also everything that came after. Within a few weeks, Katie had several friends book readings with me, who then in turn all either referred me to someone else or purchased gift cards. A friend of hers I did a reading for also had a podcast that she invited me on which consequently led to even more bookings.
Ultimately, this lesson of my first client taught me that trusting my intuition had massive (and magical!) returns.

Katie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I grew up in a home that was very shiny on the outside, and very dark and dense on the inside. While my family sat every week in the pew at church and I did well at school and sports, I was facing narcissistic, emotional and even sexual abuse at home. I was so good at functioning in the world that very little of my trauma was addressed –until I had my own children. It was then that everything I had repressed and suppressed came to the surface, looking to be seen, understood, healed and re-integrated.
At first, I went the traditional avenue of therapy, which was helpful to a point, but would also leave me feeling like I had more to release and more to understand than what we covered in a 50-minute session each week.
Mostly by happenstance, I discovered Reiki (an energy healing technique that has had much peer-reviewed examination and is often in hospitals and nursing homes all over the country). From there, I continued to find relief and understanding from different avenues such as Human Design, Astrology, Akashic Records Readings and more.
It was my goal in starting my own business, to first and foremost share my experiences on the Trauma to Transformation Podcast. Next, I wanted to offer these services that had been so transformational for me in an accessible way. I wanted to offer Human Design readings, Reiki and Akashic Records readings from the perspective of someone who didn’t live as a hermit on top of a waterfall; but who had kids and a job and a husband and lived within the world around her … not apart from it.
What’s most important to me in the work that I do and the brand that I have is to ground everything from a place of love (rather than fear). It is my deepest hope and what I would consider to be my greatest success is to empower those I work with to trust themselves and their own intuition as they walk through the world.
To briefly describe my main services:
-Human Design: A blueprint for who we came here in this lifetime to be. It’s a combination of four ancient traditions: the Hindu Chakra system, the Chinese iChing, the Kabbalah Tree of Life, and Astrology.
-Reiki: An energy healing out of the Japanese tradition that has undergone many peer-reviewed studies and is offered in many hospitals and nursing homes all over the country.
-Akashic Records: The Akashic Records are referenced throughout all sorts of ancient civilizations/cultures (Egyptians, Mayans, Tibetan Lamas, Native Americans, Middle Eastern mystics, even the Bible). It is a metaphysical library that contains information about our soul and its purpose.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Given the upbringing I had, it was far safer for me as a child to go unseen and unnoticed. One of the greatest lessons from my business has been to give myself permission to step into the limelight and be seen, be heard, and be confident in what I have to offer and what I have to say.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In the (nearly) two years I have had my business, I have had continuous pivots in what I offer and even what I call my business.
Most recently, I dropped the “coaching” from my brand and went from Katie Rose Coaching to Katie Rose.Co. Even when I first launched my soul-prentuer venture in 2023, I never really resonated with the word, “coach.”
As someone who played an extraordinary amount of softball in my youth, “coach” had a certain connotation. Think Jimmy Dugan from the 1992 *master piece* A League of Their Own.
So, why then was this the word I chose at the time? I don’t have an exact answer other than… I wasn’t sure what other word I could use.
Now that I am nearing the start of my third season with this labor of love (emphasis on the love), perhaps there are other words I would choose now that feel like a better match than, “coach.” Maybe a word like, “guide” or even “way-shower” feel like a much better fit, but even those don’t fell like a real vibrational match for what I do.
And so, I’ve decided that the most important part of my business is, well, me. It’s my love, my time and my devotion that make the readings, the council and the insights I have relevant (to myself and to anyone else).
So, less than a month ago I dropped the “coach” from my website and email and have just gone with… me, Katie Rose.
Because, just like my business, *I’m* constantly changing and evolving, but the one that that’s always consistent is the messaging and tone that come directly from my heart into what I put out into the world.
