Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katie Moise. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katie, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I believe taking the leap of faith and opening my own pelvic floor physical therapy practice is one of the biggest risks I have taken. I knew I had a passion for working with women during pregnancy and postpartum and knew there was a need for access to better care in the greater Atlanta area, but taking the leap to actually open my own practice was scary. I opened my clinic in an area of town where I didn’t know anyone and was unsure if patients would even come see me. This was one of the biggest and best risks I have every taken. It has paid of twofold, as I have been able to expand my practice and vision to serve the greater Atlanta area. I truly believe all women should see a pelvic floor PT both during and after their pregnancy.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! My name is Katie Moise Simmons and I am a pelvic floor physical therapist. I am also the owner of ATL Pelvic Health, a boutique, private practice physical therapy clinic that focuses on addressing bladder, bowel and sexual function in both women and men. My personal journey into pelvic health began well before opening my clinic: after a hip injury sidelined her from running, I saw an orthopedic PT who referred me to a pelvic PT. From there, my eyes were opened to how many women of all ages likely experience similar symptoms without knowing where to turn.
With ATL Pelvic Health, my goal is to educate, provide resources and guide women through caring for their bodies. There is still a large stigma around talking about peeing, pooping or s*x, but I want to normalize these topics.
For many women, pelvic floor dysfunction can stem from pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum recovery. Although we treat clients (including men!) across all stages of life, I am proud that ATL Pelvic Health is changing the care available to new moms. My hope is that you can return to the activities you love without pain or peeing your pants.
ATL Pelvic Health is dedicated to supporting women throughout every stage of life. We will listen to your concerns—and trust us when we say no subject is taboo. From there, we will work together to help you reach your goals. ATL Pelvic Health is dedicated to supporting women throughout every stage of life. We will listen to your concerns—and trust us when we say no subject is taboo. From there, we will work together to help you reach your goals. We treat a variety of pelvic floor issues, including pain, incontinence, prolapse and more. What truly defines our approach, however, is the care and attention that we offer every client. We believe that women’s health has been a neglected area of our healthcare system for too long—and ATL Pelvic Health aims to change that by offering physical therapy, Pilates and more programs tailored to women through every season of life.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My biggest piece of advice is to build a community. For me, that looked like reaching out to practitioners who align with my beliefs and provide complimentary services to the ones we offer at ATL Pelvic Health. I believe the network of like minded practitioners that I have grown to know over the years has helped me grow my practice.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I think opening a practice during the middle of the pandemic can be very overwhelming and scary. Some of the most difficult moments in this journey have been when there is a spike in COVID illness, flu sickness, or seasonal transitions when kids go back to school or the holiday season. During these times, fear tends to creep in that my schedule is slowing down and I won’t be able to continue building an awesome community of clients. Rather than letting that fear take over, I now have strategies on how to continue to network and market so that I don’t panic about a slow schedule. Sometimes the slowest moments are the biggest blessings as it allows me time to step back and plan out the goals for the future of ATL Pelvic Health. It is easy to feel discouraged and like a failure during these times but I try to focus on the positives and moving the needle forward in the world of pelvic health.
