We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katie Lawrence a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Katie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
We feel like we are trying to use our talents for a good, positive purpose. Our main product is a Be Still Prayer Space which is a meant to be used for daily prayer. This is what the Lord has lead us to develop and to market. Even if the customer is not Christian, a Prayer Space can be used to just be still and contemplate or honor a special person. This keeps people centered and relaxed, and breaks the chaos of a busy day. We all need the escape and break. We hope our business helps people with this call to slow down and pray!
Katie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My husband, Caleb, and I have always worked as Creatives in the advertising world. Recently we decided to open our own business developing, creating, illustrating, designing and producing Christian Prayer Spaces and home decor products. Although religious items are plentiful in many homes, our prayer spaces are unique. You are able to set up your complete home altar quickly and conveniently in almost any space – table or wall – to use everyday, year-round. The pieces have been prayerfully designed with core Christian elements, as well as, beautifully designed artwork so that when set into the wood base slits, your Prayer Space is ready to go! If desired, “add-ons” can replace or supplement some of the elements of your “Everyday” Prayer Space so that your family’s prayer life can be more focused on the liturgical year, special sacraments and life’s other celebrations! We continue to look to the Holy Spirit’s guidance through this exciting time. We are thankful for the support from our former employers and our entire community, and pray that as our family of 6 grows healthily, that our Be Still Prayer Space business does, as well!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
We have been given creative gifts and talents and feel honored to be able to use this creativity to produce art and home decor that centers around and strengthens Christian values for those who have a desire for daily inspiration.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
To be an artist is to be able to always see new angles of things. It is a gift to be able to be flexible with the world around us. A lot of stress and anxiety disappears when one is able to see that there are different way to look at a problem. It also gives you a sense of joy in being able to be a part of a beautiful creation!
