We were lucky to catch up with Katie Huber recently and have shared our conversation below.

Katie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.

One of the things that makes TRADEway so unique is that while we are registered through FINRA as an Investment Advisory Firm (regulated by the SEC), we also hold tight to our roots–we serve and support Christian families who are working hard to build lasting legacies. Not many IA firms (if any) have this sort of background or faith-based mission.

Our CEO (my father, David Mitchell), has been a Senior Pastor of a small country church for more than 35 years. He was a business man before he was saved at the age of 24, so he had the unique ability to see powerful business principles all throughout the Bible–it naturally comes out in our investment education and support system even now. Our team is made up of like-minded families of faith who know and love the Lord and can effectively support, love, and pray for our clients. The impact that our team makes, and therefore the ripple affect with our clients as well, is something that is hard to put into words. It’s truly an honor to serve alongside them in this great mission to equip and support Christian families as they reach their biggest goals through the world of stock trading and investing.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I love our story, so I’m happy to share it! What is now known as TRADEway began as a “garage-based” family business back in 2008. When my husband and I were fresh out of college, newly married, and ready to make our mark in this world, we joined my Dad, David Mitchell, to start this new chapter. We had a handful of clients, a garage converted into an office in our home, and a dream as big as Texas. Within a couple of years, with the mentorship of our dear friend Dr. Myron Golden, and the grit and hustle that it takes to build a lasting business, we started experiencing exponential growth.

Our mission is to break down the confusing world of finance so that our students can understand it. We glorify God through family, money, and business. We work towards our mission by teaching business principles from the Bible, reviving the entrepreneurial Spirit in America, and empowering individuals to take control of their finances.

Between 2008 and 2014, we grew to over 40,000 clients across the United States, and built a team of 40+ dedicated teammates who were serving and supporting our clients, while hosting over 120 live events annually. In 2015, we began the grueling and expensive undertaking of becoming a registered Investment Advisory Firm and also rebranding to TRADEway which was completed in 2016.

In 2020, with the introduction of Covid 19, our entire business model pivoted to hosting virtual events. We continue to host mostly virtual events which educate and support our clients, along with some live in-person events. We now have a partnership with the #1 Christian Wealth Creation Event company in the country–Life Surge. Life Surge hosts 1-day events in major markets with key Christian influencers such as Tim Tebow, Willie Robertson, Nick Vujicic, Auntie Anne Beiler and many more. We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.

Well, my business partners are FAMILY, so this is an easy one! Our entire family is involved with TRADEway in one way or another.

My Dad, David Mitchell, is the Founder & CEO of TRADEway–He is truly the visionary behind what we do and everything we have accomplished. After giving his life to the Lord at the age of 24, He has been passionately pursuing the mission God placed him on–we are all supporting and expanding what he started so many years ago. In my experience, there is no greater mentor, businessman, pastor, father, grandfather, or leader than David Mitchell. My Mom, Charlotte Mitchell, is the Co-Founder and the person who lifts our family business (and everyone involved) up in prayer daily and is the constant support we all need to keep the mission moving forward. From my perspective, her influence and prayer life cannot be matched.

My siblings have also been pivotal in making the vision and dream a reality. Ben Mitchell (one of my three brothers), is the Team Manager and a genius in the world of Precious Metals investing–he’s truly my right-hand for running this growing business. Paul (another brother), is our Podcast Production Manager; Matthew (the third brother), is our Video Production Manager. These guys have grown their skillsets into impressive portfolios that would blow away any viewer or listener because they are passionate about bringing their best to the marketplace and using their gifts to serve the Lord–I love working with all three of them. My sister, Jenny, helped faithfully build this business from the ground up for over a decade, and is now enjoying time raising her children and using her incredible skillsets to chase her dreams (she’s truly remarkable).

Colin Calvert, my brother-in-law, is our CFO and CTO. His experience and skillsets in these areas are second to none–there is no one Dad and I trust more to help lead our business into the future with stellar in-house technology and strong financial strategy and planning. He has helped us build an eco-system which rivals the best in the industry (if not the world), in my opinion.

And lastly, but certainly not least, is the most meaningful & impactful relationship and business partner of my life, my dear husband, Dave Huber. We have been “partners” in everything in life since meeting in college back in 2003. 20 years later we’re still going strong, with three beautiful children (Mady, Sam, and Abby), finally moving into the home we just finished building on our family ranch, and seeing the fruit of our efforts in helping build the family business through the lives of the thousands upon thousands of incredible Christian families who have come to TRADEway to grow and learn a better way to invest/trade. It has been the honor of my life to walk along-side this amazing Christian man.

So, as you can see, in my very strong opinion, I have the best business partners on the planet! It’s been a blessing to work and serve alongside them all through the years.

Any advice for managing a team?

God has provided the most loyal, passionate, committed, faithful and truly excellent team members for TRADEway that I could ever ask for. They each play a pivotal role in the growth and continued success of this family business. Leading/managing this team has been one of the greatest honors and true joys of my career. In terms of advice, the greatest lesson I’ve learned along the way is that if you treat every employee as a teammate, and as a valued, loved, brilliant individual created by God for His purpose, they will perform at their highest level because they WANT TO, not because they have to. They are “working unto God, and not unto men,” which is where their drive and motivation comes from. Are they human and make mistakes? Absolutely! We all do. But showing grace and respect through every situation is critical for our leadership team. I am not a “numbers gal” (though KPIs are important), rather I try to make it abundantly clear that I deeply care for each PERSON on the team, want the best for them and their families, and will do everything in my power to give them great opportunities and equip them to perform at their highest level.
