We were lucky to catch up with Katie Horisk recently and have shared our conversation below.
Katie, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I literally have never been so fulfilled in my life! Every time I walk into my studio I feel so much at peace- it’s as if every single thing in my life that has happened has led me to this moment! So many pinch-me moments, so many dances while making arrangements & really just constant cheesin’! It is a blast and this shows through my work!

Katie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I went to school for sustainable agriculture & for painting but didn’t graduate. I still never stopped creating but never really took it seriously until I had my son, Finley. He is the force behind this whole thing. There is nothing stronger than trying to be the best person you could possibly be for your child & that includes setting them up for a better future.
I do anything and everything that includes flowers and art. Nothing is off limits- painted fresh floral arrangements, dried flower air force one’s , preserved flower jewelry etc!
At my core- I really love finding out the little things about people and why they love those things. That translates into my work as I try to include those little things and make it as personal/customized as I can! I achieve that by painting the vases & the flowers- i even sometimes bedazzle them with your initials!
I am most proud of having my son witness that you can turn your passions into profits & it is amazing to have him create by my side. He’s becoming quite the little artist.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My main mission is to never stop learning, to be able to adapt, to allow myself grace & to not sleep on my ideas! And obviously the main goal is to provide my son with an exploratory childhood & a more secure future!

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Northern Delaware & West Chester, PA thrive at doing this! There are meet ups to create, meetings to learn how to grow your creative business etc. I really am grateful to have the kind of support I do with these groups.
But in general- and some people may not agree with this is I don’t think people should gatekeep information! A lot of florists tend to do this. I am a very big believer in wanting everyone to succeed and if someone needs a hand or advice I am all for it! No one is going to have the same eye for things & everyone has their own approach, methods, and style.
