We were lucky to catch up with Katie Greenwood recently and have shared our conversation below.
Katie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
The best boss I’ve ever had led with empathy, trust, and clear communication. They empowered our team, listened actively, and fostered a positive, inclusive environment. By recognizing achievements and encouraging growth, they inspired loyalty and drove our collective success. Their genuine care for both people and performance made them a leader worth following.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! I’m Katie Greenwood—a certified RRCA running coach, mom of two, and passionate runner with over 11 years of experience. What started as a simple way to stay active after college turned into something that shaped my life and career. Running gave me confidence, clarity, and community, and now I get to help others discover those same things.
I coach athletes virtually and also teach a weekly speed interval class at Twenty One Run in South Jordan, UT. I specialize in helping runners of all levels—from beginners to experienced athletes—fit training into their busy lives. As a mom, I understand the juggle, and I build plans that are flexible, sustainable, and realistic.
My coaching approach blends structure with empathy. I help provide the strategy and accountability, but I also celebrate progress, adjust for life’s curveballs, and make sure my athletes feel supported every step of the way. I also create content on Instagram that shares the ups and downs of training, racing, and showing up consistently—especially when life is full.
I’m most proud of the trust my athletes place in me and the meaningful progress they make. If there’s one thing I hope people take away from working with me, it’s that you don’t have to be perfect to be a runner—you just have to be willing to start. I’ll help guide the rest.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been word-of-mouth referrals and showing up on Instagram/social media with honest, relatable content that builds trust and connection with my audience.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Aside from training and knowledge, building genuine relationships and truly listening to clients is key—people thrive when they feel seen, supported, and understood.
