Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katie Garrett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Katie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?

Word of mouth! My business started because one of my family members referred us to someone else. This is how our business constantly grows! It’s all about referrals!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I’ve always loved photography. It never seemed like I could balance life with it though. Finally, I made the decision to do it. I had my kids and knew it was something I wanted to do. I got a starter camera. I started taking courses and learning all the things camera and settings. I mentored with great photographers and still mentoring with some today! I’m constantly trying to grow and learn. I never want to get comfortable where I’m at. I am proud of being able to juggle the learning, growing, business, family and life!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I think having an openness to taking advice from others and always willing to learn had really helped. Always having a kind hear and putting God first has built the reputation I want.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

Referrals! I’ll say it again! Any photography business booms from referrals! You loved your photos so tell the world and tag your photographers!
