We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katie Garcia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Katie , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
At Gather Media, we work in many different industry verticals, with many different client types and companies of different sizes. For example, we have clients in verticals like solid waste, B2B learning, restaurant/food, City government, and the list goes on. With these clients, we offer a variety of digital marketing services from social media management to Google ads to website design and more. One area of specialty for us is community management (think responding to reviews and social comments!). We manage thousands of social media pages, thousands of Yelp pages and thousands of Google Business pages. You could say we are great listeners! Through all this listening, commenting, and communicating, we have noticed a few audience trends pop up across all industry verticals.
1. Customer/ client service is still paramount in efforts to create brand champions.
2. Customers/clients want to be taken care of and they want to be heard.
3. Customers/clients are willing to be your biggest cheerleaders as long as you are authentic.

Katie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Gather Media Co. was founded by Katie Garcia (me!) and story is simple. As a fresh faced college graduate, I knew when I wanted to start my own digital marketing agency. It took me 10+ years of gaining experience, learning and growing, but the dream came together. You know when they say don’t give up on your daydream…I didn’t!
Gather Media Co. has grown over the years to be a full-service digital agency with super-talented team members. We pride ourselves on offering white-glove digital marketing services and being there for our clients when they need us most. Social media doesn’t sleep on the weekends, and neither do we! We don’t turn off just because it is Saturday; we schedule and build strategic workflows to ensure our clients’ needs are taken care of.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
For me, my most effective strategy for growing my client base is always being of service to others. So many folks have helped me along the way that when I hear someone is thinking about starting their own business, has marketing questions, etc., I am always there to help. This is with no strings attached! I expect nothing in return! When you are of service to others, your network will naturally grow in a positive way.

At Gather Media Co., our motto is MORE is MORE when it comes to client communication! If a client asks us where something is at or when something will be finished, it means we missed the mark on communication. We prefer to over-communicate, even if it is a quick check-in, a two-sentence email, an emoji text message, or an hour Zoom call. There is nothing more reassuring than knowing your agency is on top of things before you have to ask!
