We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Katie Franco. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Katie below.
Alright, Katie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I would like to say my most meaningful work is yet to come and still in the works. Even though I have worked a few projects along the way, I am proud to say I was able to experience such gratitude and more in depth of what I love, because it is so much more than just photography. They are photographs that hold such feeling.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a very passionate art type of person. I admire people who aren’t afraid of doing what they love and pour their interests to the public especially when it comes to art. It is therapeutic and I was gifted a film camera in 2016 by two of my amazing cousins who are also talented creatives. Ever since then I couldn’t go anywhere without it. There was a brief moment when I had stopped taking pictures and felt like I wasn’t me anymore… to a certain extend. It was then when I realized film photography is a huge part of my life.
I call my work as a “beautiful mess”. Shooting through a film camera definitely makes you feel some type of way. A mixture of melancholy and nostalgia. Messy yet beautiful.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Everyone has gone through a difficult moment in their life, right? but one will never understand what they have been through. I feel that’s the closest thing I can explain right now when a “non-creative” tries to understand from an artist’s POV. Different artists have different point of views of life, different ways to tell it, and that’s what makes it so beautiful. It’s completely okay to be different, free of judgement and sharing what makes you happy.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I get to heal as a better person. It’s like therapy for me. Doing this makes me feel in absolute bliss and the fact I get to share what I love to others is a feeling that I wouldn’t want to disappear.
