Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katie Fleming. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Every since I can remember I have loved fresh flowers. I love being in nature and the romantic idea behind flowers. I grew up in Grove City and also imagined somehow owning something in the city that people would want to go too. Last year my husband surprised me by talking to Rebecca who owned the framing shop in Grove City for over 30 years. After a lot of talking she decided she would like to have me open up in the front of the shop. So for Christmas he surprised me with a store I could call my own. While Grove City has other flower shops we like to think we are different. We offer build your own bouquet classes and drop bys along with lots of other classes for women. We also have many locally owned women owned vendors in our shop. We are a flower experience. I want you to walk in and feel like you are somewhere soft and welcoming. What gets me most excited is when someone comes in looking for something special for their loved ones. I love being creative and putting their ideas together.

Katie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I grew up in Grove City and now I live her with my husband and our five wonderful kids. I got into the industry for two simples reasons, I love flowers and I love seeing people happy. My background is in real estate and I love now owning my own business while supporting other small businesses. Our brand is all about loved ones. We want to help you take care of those in your life. Whether it be a birthday, wedding, funeral or anything in between. My store is named Butterfly Boutique because butterflies have always been symbolic for me. Butterflys are a sign that all things can change and grow.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
As far as starting my business I knew taking out a loan was something I really never wanted to do. If I couldnt afford to start this on my own I didn’t want to do it. I am a real estate agent and worked hard to do my first flip house. I took the majority of the money I made from that to start this business. I believe it has made me appreciate even more what I am building. I know how much blood, sweat and tears I have put into it.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think what is helping my reputation is my commitment to helping the community. I love being involved with so many things in our city. I help with as many charity groups and city events that I can. I believe simply showing up and being yourself goes a long way.
