We recently connected with Katie Fisher and have shared our conversation below.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a West Coast gal. I was born in Oregon, grew up in Arizona, and then moved to California for college. I’m a San Diego State University alumna and I began photographing for The Daily Aztec, SDSU’s student newspaper my Sophomore year of college. I contributed to the paper until I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with and emphasis in Media Studies. After school I found myself drawn to photographing people, so I continued on that path shooting more and more portraits and weddings. When I’m not shooting, I love to be outdoors (that’s the main reason I moved to beautiful San Diego!), hike, rollerblade, go to electronic music festivals, spend time with my wife, family, closest friends, and of course relax at home with my two fluffy cats.
I mainly photograph weddings, family portraits, corporate events and headshots, but I also do real estate, automotive, and food for companies like Turo, Bring a Trailer, Grubhub and Doordash.
I think what really sets me apart from other companies is how I go above and beyond for my clients before, during, and after working together. I strive to produce unique, beautiful photographs and leave a lasting impression on all my clients. I stick to my word and run my business with a very high level of professionalism and with integrity.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
At first I wasn’t sure if I could make it as a full time photographer. It took me about 10 years before I went full time with no other part time jobs outside of photography. I think with all the talk around me about how saturated the market is, and fear of not booking enough clients to make ends meet caused me to hold back on going full time. It was not until I really believed in myself and looked at my fears head-on that I took the plunge into the unknown. Seeing bookings coming in from people who were not referrals from previous clients really boosted my confidence as well. I receive bookings from people all over the United States, and that is really cool how we can connect online either through Google or social media like Instagram.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most rewarding feelings is when I deliver a gallery to a client and they show so much appreciation and enthusiasm with the photographs and the experience working with me. Another aspect is when I am in the moment during a wedding or session and I just nail the shot exactly as I predicted it happening. It’s a feeling that is overwhelmingly joyous.
