We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Katie Fischer Cohen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Katie below.
Hi Katie , thanks for joining us today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
I had always wanted to be a stationery designer, even as a child. I started my career in the entertainment industry. I was working fulltime at Endeavor Talent Agency in Los Angeles and making handmade sets of cards on the side that I sold at a boutique in LA and in the Hamptons. This was my passion but how could I start my own business? It was scary and unknown. A dear friend and mentor decided to hold a dinner party at her home in my honor with a group of entrepreneurs and freelancers – people who made that leap from the safety of a job to running their own business. It was life changing. I had a support group – one of the guests offered to build a website for me and help me to register my business. I ended up applying to go back to grad school at NYU to study graphic design, fine art, and business at the Gallatin School of Individual Study. Another friend was able to help me to get a job in the Art History Department which enabled me access to a tuition remission program – I was able to hone the skills needed without going into debt. Friends and my community made it possible for me to start my business and be where I am today. I am eternally grateful!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We are a woman-owned, equal opportunity employer with over ten years of experience in the world of art and graphic design.
Katie and her super-talented team are addicted to innovative and timeless designs, high craftsmanship, coffee, and a pleasant experience for our clients. We are a team of artists, graphic designers, copy editors, quality checkers, organization keepers, and magic makers.
We specialize in custom invitation and day-of stationery design, print and digital, for weddings, celebrations, Galas, and corporate/fundraising events. We also have an online shop featuring The KFD Collection, a line of bespoke ready-or-order designs.
Our work has been featured in Vogue, Forbes, InStyle, Brides, Glamour, Martha Stewart, New York Magazine, the LA Times, Hamptons, and other top publications. In order to maintain the highest level of service and creativity, we take on only a select number of clients per year.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
I wanted to find a dynamic way to showcase all of the work we could do for an event, especially in the digital realm. So I decided to host an events industry event with Raymond Jarrell of Jarrell Entertainment. We threw an old-school hip hop party with distinct event branding. KFD designed an animated digital save the date, a super cool printed invite suite, a matching website, and lots of fun day-of stationery, signage, and screen content. Ray arranged for a celebrity surprise performance by Dres from Black Sheep. It was incredibly memorable event and an organic way for us both to cultivate new business.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Creating custom gift packages for event planners. that have an underlying concept as well as a way to showcase our design sense and creativity.
