We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katie Druva a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Katie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
When I first got started in construction, I owned a general contracting company dealing with entire scopes of projects. Through working with other trades, I saw that there were huge deficits in certain aspects of construction. I noticed that drywall was the worst of the trades at the time, and I knew that I could make the world of drywall better for customers who had that specific need. I did not enjoy doing general contracting, so I decided to tackle the drywall trade, and that was when C3 Drywall was born.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Core3 Drywall is a residential and commercial drywall contractor, specializing in all things drywall. From small repairs to new construction, we tackle anything drywall related. We proudly serve the south Denver Metro area, mainly with homeowners who have drywall needs. We do repairs, remodels, garages, basements and more!
We value solid communication, customer education, completing projects in a timely manner and being as efficient as possible.
Core3 is a family owned and operated business and we strongly believe in supporting the community that we serve. We actively support the Douglas County Veteran Community and are grateful for the opportunities we have to help.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Most recently, we have experienced a big fraud issue within our business. Our Quickbooks account was breached in January, and the hacker set up payroll via Quickbooks which gave them access to our accounts. They also stole my identity and took out a loan in my name for about $40K. These actions drained our business accounts and set us back to zero. All of our operating funds were gone. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do with crimes like this, so we are left with two options. Quit, or figure out a way to keep going. We started this business from nothing once before, and we are doing it again. We will continue to serve our community to the best of our ability, no matter who tries to take us down.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The things I think helped us build our reputation within our market is integrity and being dependable. Contractors have a bad reputation for being flakey, shady and unreliable. We are working everyday towards breaking the mold with how we operate C3, and how we treat our customers.
