Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katie Brandow. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Teachers are a profession deserving of a supportive work environment and we provide that at School of Enrichment. We support teachers first through low ratio programs, paid time off, perks, higher pay and logistical support.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I worked with families in crisis, specifically teens who were lacking basic skills that should have been learned in the home and school setting. Recognizing this, as a parent I created a program that provides exceptional early childhood educational programs that give parents peace of mind when their children are in our loving care. This begins with hiring and supporting phenomenal teachers who have flexibility and support to teach in a way that works for them and this creates a circle of happiness and trust that begins with the teacher, flows to the student and then to the parents. It is a business model built on love, fun, commitment and trust.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I’ve read a substantial amount of personal development books and when we grow ourselves as a leader, we raise the standard of the people around us. The most practical and applicable business books have been The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks, Work The System by Sam Carpenter and The E Myth by Michael Gerber.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
School of Enrichment leased a building for over 10 years and the lease was suddenly not renewed when the building sold. With little warning, we solidified a SBA504 loan and purchased two abandoned school houses that we renovated in 7 weeks and were able to move the school over a weekend and resume classes the following Monday. Just about any obstacle that could have been presented was and it was a challenging project to complete. I learned more about myself, trusting the process when I committed to the sprint of incredibly hard work. My mantra throughout this journey was, “this or something better” and it helped tremendously.
