We were lucky to catch up with Katie Boysen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Katie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
The defining moment in my career came at a time when, from the outside, everything looked “successful.” I was working in corporate banking and compliance, leading projects, checking all the boxes that were supposed to add up to fulfillment. But inside, I felt anxious, depleted, and disconnected from myself.
During the pandemic, I started to realize this corporate future I had envisioned no longer aligned. I randomly signed up for a sound bath during that period, not knowing what to expect, and afterwards, something inside me shifted. For the first time in years, I felt calm. Actually, better than calm. I felt happy and like dancing across the room. I began attending more sound baths to feel that calming energy again. What started as personal healing slowly evolved into my purpose and a year later I felt called to learn sound healing so I could help others.
What felt like one of the scariest, most uncertain times of my life turned out to be the one that made everything make sense. I didn’t leave my old life behind—I finally connected it to something that felt real.

Katie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi! I’m Katie Boysen, the founder of Recalibrate Mind Body, where I help high-achieving professionals calm their minds, reset their nervous systems, and find balance through sound healing and mindfulness. Most of my clients come from corporate backgrounds—finance, tech, and consulting—the same high-pressure world I once worked in. I also partner directly with corporations to design sound healing and mindfulness experiences that support employee well-being, improve focus, and reduce burnout. My work helps people slow down long enough to reconnect to themselves, so they can show up to life and work from a calmer, more grounded place.
What sets me apart is that I was—and in many ways, still am—my client. I know exactly what it feels like to carry the constant pressure to perform, to go above and beyond at work, and to somehow balance health, relationships, and personal growth at the same time. It’s a lot. And while meditation gets all the buzz online, I also know that sitting still and “quieting the mind” can feel impossible for busy professionals. That’s why I love sound healing—it offers a gentler, more accessible pathway into mindfulness. The sound itself does the work, helping the body release stress and the mind find calm, even for those who struggle to meditate.
I’m now beginning to expand my work by developing a course to mentor new wellness practitioners—sound healers, yoga instructors, and coaches—who are just getting started. Setting up my own business came naturally to me because of my corporate background in accounting, compliance/audit, and consulting, but I quickly realized that for many practitioners, that’s the hardest part. I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way, and now I want to provide a roadmap so others can learn from those experiences and feel more confident in themselves and their business.
Through this next chapter of Recalibrate Mind Body, my mission is to empower others—whether they’re professionals seeking calm or new healers learning to build a foundation—to feel aligned, confident, and capable of creating balance in both their work and their lives.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Other than training or knowledge, I think mindset is everything.
When I first transitioned from corporate banking into sound healing, it took me a long time to confidently answer the question, “So, what do you do for work?” After 15 years in financial services, my career had done a complete 180, and it was hard to identify as something entirely different.
The real shift happened after I read “A Map to Your Soul” by Jennifer Freed, Ph.D. That book helped me realize I was still carrying embarrassment and fear of judgment around this new path—worrying that people would think sound healing was too “woo” or not a “real job.”
The biggest transformation came when I stopped hiding behind explanations and started simply saying, “I’m a sound healer.” No qualifiers, no disclaimers. Just claiming it. That small change completely shifted my confidence and the way others responded.
You can have all the certifications in the world, but if you don’t fully own what you do, it’s hard to grow. Once I embraced that identity with pride, everything—from my energy to my opportunities—began to align.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
This is a tough one, but if I could go back, I’d still choose the same path—just on a quicker timeline.
My corporate background has been incredibly valuable as a business owner. It gave me structure, professionalism, and the ability to manage the behind-the-scenes details—everything from accounting to contracts—without having to outsource. Those skills have truly supported me in building Recalibrate Mind Body into a sustainable business.
That said, I wish I had discovered sound healing earlier in my life. There were plenty of low points—major breakups, job transitions, even layoffs—where I struggled and felt disconnected. Therapy helped a bit, but I needed something more. At the time, meditation was the only tool I knew about, and honestly, I hated it. Sitting still with my thoughts felt impossible.
If I’d known something as simple as sound could help me feel calm again—without having to “do” anything or get it right—I think I would’ve found peace a lot sooner. Still, I believe every step prepared me for this work. My corporate experience helps me bridge the gap between the structured world I came from and the holistic world I now serve.
