We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katia Facio a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Katia, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
I began my photography journey end of 2021. It honestly feels like it was just yesterday though. There is still so much that I am still learning. As a photographer when I first started, like many, it started out as a hobby. Which slowly turned into a business. It’s still small and with lots of room to grow. I most certainly wish I had started a lot sooner than I did. If I had, I know that most of my goals as a photographer would have been reached by now. Or so I think.
I must admit that when I started this business, I was a tired adult (If you’re over 25 years old. You might understand what I mean.) As a mother and spouse at that time it took a lot of my energy, so adding starting a business to my daily routine it became quite exhausting. However, I was eager to have something of my own. I wanted to be an example to my daughters, to never stop trying even when life gets tough,
If I would have started this journey sooner than I did, I believe that as a business owner I would have had reached specific goals. Opening up a studio space is one of them. I love working outdoors, but I want to have a large studio space for those rainy days. A space where other fellow photographers can come out and create art as well.
With all that being said though, I am a strong believer of “everything happens for a reason.” So, if I had started sooner, I know that a lot of what I now have, I would not have. Growing this business with my daughters a long my side, has made every long night, every early morning and the sense of enervation all worth it.
Looking back at it now… I am happy that I started at the time that I did.
Katia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into photography when I was a teenager. Since a very young age, I liked creating art. As I got older, I began discovering different types of art. Photography being one of them. I enjoyed it as a teen and when I became a mother I picked it back up and realized I’m pretty good at creating art through photographs. Styled shoots is where I really get to show my artistic side.
As a photographer I provide a little bit of everything. Working with Individuals for any occasions, Creatives wanting fun and different, Couples aiming to capture their love in an image, Families needing to freeze beautiful and time flying moments in life. My work is for everyone.
Something I strive for is helping my clients feel the best and be the best. We often times, don’t see ourselves the way others see us. Many of us forget how beautiful we are, and being able to capture this through an image and showing the clients, what it is that I see and them seeing their beautiful selves through a different view tends to help boost their confidence. Providing a safe and welcoming energy is extremely important to me.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As a photographer, I find it very rewarding to see clients print material with images I’ve taken. Seeing my work on their walls, on wedding invitations, etc. Being recommended by clients because of my creativity and ability to capture their vision.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The one goal that fuels this journey of mine, is to be able to one day be the inspiration for young creatives. To be an example to never give up on your dreams. That art and creativity is rewarding and enriching.
