Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Taylor
Hi Kathy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was raised in Norfolk, VA, and I discovered my passion for helping, teaching, and organizing events at a very early age. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Norfolk State University, focusing on Education and Business, I dedicated almost 20 years to working in early childhood education and managing an event-planning company. Now, I serve as an Inclusive Leadership Perspective Strategist at Kathy Taylor Consulting LLC, offering various services focused on coaching and leadership development. I am also passionate about supporting Multi-Passionate Entrepreneurs and Creative Thought Leaders through my latest project, Be THAT Academy LLC, guiding them to turn their dreams and visions into reality.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey to becoming a successful business owner has not always been smooth sailing. There have been many challenges along the way, including the fear of the unknown, lack of support, financial concerns, and more. However, the struggle I faced the most was imposter syndrome. Even now, I have to consciously monitor my thoughts and words to avoid falling into the trap of self-doubt. It can be particularly challenging to navigate when you possess a gift and many talents, yet you don’t always see them as special because they come relatively easily. When others praise what I’ve said or done as impressive, I tend to focus on the imperfections and flaws. It’s super important to recognize and identify the triggers quickly. It allows me to combat them with solutions and strategies to keep my journey smoother, even when it doesn’t always feel that way. Understanding and addressing these struggles have been essential in maintaining my progress and growth as a business owner.
We’ve been impressed with Be THAT Academy LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for finding a mentor starts with being honest about your blind spots and seeking someone to help you in those specific areas. Identify where you need the most guidance and find a mentor with expertise in that domain, which will significantly accelerate your growth.
For networking, I recommend looking into industry associations and considering joining them. These organizations often have best practice standards and provide beneficial information on upcoming trends and developments, helping you stay on the field’s cutting edge.
What has been extremely helpful for me is picking a focal point each quarter. As a creative thought leader, I naturally want to explore everything simultaneously, which often leads to information overload. By setting a specific focus per quarter, I can focus on finding and utilizing resources and connections in that area. This approach has allowed me to achieve much better success in implementing what I learn and making meaningful progress in my endeavors.
