We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kathy Lovett-McKeever . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kathy below.
Kathy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My work as a volunteer CPR instructor led to a representative from the American Heart Association nominating me as a Woman of Impact. This is a nationwide 9 week fundraising campaign to raise money for Go Red for Women.
Many people do not realize that heart disease is the number one killer of women, So I’m trying to not only raise money for the organization, but to raise that awareness piece as well. Over the last year alone I have taught thousands of people hands-only CPR and Ive raised thousands of dollars towards Go Red for Women!
Ive met survivors, people who were brought back to life after needing CPR and I’ve met their heroes.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I had first learned CPR when I wanted to become a lifeguard at 15 years old. Then in college I had the opportunity to become a CPR instructor. Fast forward almost 15 years later, Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field and needed immediate CPR to save his life.
It was then I realized there were so many people out there that did not know how to perform CPR when to me it was something I had known more than half my life. Something that was a basic skill. So I decided to further my outreach as an instructor and compete for Mrs. New York as Mrs. Buffalo and have CPR education as my platform

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I think something that would have helped me is having the confidence to just ask. Ask for help. Ask for donations. For every 10 people you ask, you may only have one “yes” but that one person that believes in you is all it takes to keep that momentum going. Surround yourself with these people that believe in you. If it’s something that you want bad enough, you will find a way to make it happen. When you have the ability to speak passionately about what you believe in, people will listen. People will help.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I think I’ve read Atomic Habits twice now. It’s been a wonderful book and it has definitely helped me stay focused and stay consistent.
