Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kathy JONES. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kathy, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
A Single mom, working from 9:00 to 5:00. One day while on my lunch break, I watched a couple come in with their daughter aged 7, set in the booth across from me, she seems so sad and not engaged. My thought was how can I put a smile on this little girl face without seeming weird? Well low and behold I had just stopped by Matel Toy store across the street from my job and happen to have the most adorable Barbie in my bag. I then waved at the little girl, and quietly whispered to the mom If it was ok to give a doll to the daughter. She said of course! The biggest smile I ever saw was placed on that girls face when she took the doll. That was the start, I ran back to work with joy in my soul because of that smile. Ok next, I begin to talk it over with myself, and plan how I would execute the next smile. Friday was payday so, I decided to take $100 bucks and purchase, barbies and racing cars to keep in my car. I was so excited!!!! After about a year of this, someone asked why I did what I did, I stated, I Love to see the children smile when they receive the gift. One of my co-workers said you know you should start a non-profit, me: what is that? So, the journey begins back in 2007. What will I call it? Heart2Heart, from my heart to their hearts. So, 2013 I established a 501C3 and I am still giving dolls, racing cars, now shoes, backpacks, care packages and more all around the world. Write the vision and make it plain!!!!!!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Kathy Jones, married for now 20 years with two grown children. I wanted to make a difference, a Barbie doll of $10.00 and a smile, so I used what was in my hand until I could get assistance to see smiles all around the world. Heart2Heart is a 501C# Non-profit that provides new shoes, backpacks for back to school to the less fortunate, families who maybe struggling financially. We wanted to change the life of a child. We want children to know that we care about their future, and heart. I’m most excited that my family has come alongside and saw the vision to become servants to our local, communities.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Many days I wanted to throw in the tile. There have been nights where I’ve cried seeking help from other. Only to wake up and God guides me to the answers for my question. It gets difficult running a non-profit but the end results is If God brings it to you, he will definitely bring you through it….
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
With running a non-profit, you gain multiple connections and great relationships in the industry. We were blessed to start a business for women shoes, for a very low price, with this we were able to donate %50 of the earning to the non-profit. This was a good idea but at a wrong time. Due of the pandemic, we had to shut the on-line store down, but continue forward with the Non-profit!!
