We were lucky to catch up with Kathy Greggs recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kathy , appreciate you joining us today. Over the course of your career, have you seen or experienced your industry completely flip-flop or change course on something?
A pioneer in her own right, Ms. Greggs continues to dedicate her life to what she strongly believes. What exactly does Ms. Kathy Greggs believe in? She believes that all communities including the disenfranchised and demarginalized need infrastructure for sustainability. She believes that all people have a right to justice. Her latest project led her to the reauthorizing of the Lautenberg Amendment the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban of 1996 prohibited the possession of a firearm by anyone convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. There was no exemption for public service officials or those required to carry a firearm. The bill’s sponsor, Frank Lautenberg, became its namesake. Added to recent accomplishments is the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
These are great accomplishments protecting women suffering domestic violence crimes and their recovery. Greggs is currently an educator at the Department of Defense Education Activity Elementary School at Fort Bragg, NC being a guiding light for all to emulate. During the height of the Coronavirus pandemic 2021, Ms. Greggs fought for rental assistance for individuals facing evictions especially when the state received $85 million dollars of which only $15 million dollars was issued to the over 300,00 people in need. This pledge led to guidance to navigate and expedite the process which in turned minimized mass evictions in Cumberland County. Fayetteville PACT recently filmed an unscripted and unedited American Rescue Plan Funds Documentary which is currently on Amazon Prime. Fayetteville PACT has parented with 10 organizations including NC Budget and Tax Center to advocate in the disbursement of all funds needed by December 31, 2024, requesting the City of Fayetteville to disburse $40.4 Million Dollars and Cumberland County to disburse $65 Million to the families that are need. Fayetteville PACT is currently filming another project for those who have suffered from police brutality and police misconduct. The film will include other cities of NC and organizations who are fighting an effort for civilian police oversight and citizens review boards. Fayetteville PACT will also make history by establishing the first Police Accountability Political Action Committee c4 later in 2023. Kathy Greggs has spoken and educated organizations and citizens on different platforms including International. Kathy Greggs spoke on the Black Business Expo several times on Building the Black Infrastructure and Eliminating Qualified Immunity. She also, spoke on the Rise to Greater Heights Network an international platform to discuss Human Rights.
Kathy , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
No one in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, NC is as knowledgeable and experienced in this field as Ms. Kathy A Greggs. Ms. Greggs is the epitome of advocacy for the people. Talk about changing laws that change lives; she is a force to be reckoned with. Yes, she knows how to get the job done. One good thing is that Ms. Kathy is not a politician, but a woman of high regard with a strong passion to stand for her community’s fight for protection and equality.
It all began in Camden, New Jersey. Born into a military family where both parents served this country, Kathy learned at an early age the importance of discipline, rights and standing your ground when right. This young lady grew into a powerful woman using her life experiences to take on agencies and organizations that oppress others and overused their authority and positions.
While serving in the military, Kathy herself faced oppositions and challenges that led to shine the light on the disparities with female soldiers and military policies and procedures that protected those in authority who were mostly men. Her stance against military sexual abuse eventually changed policies and justice was served. The emotional scars and her personal assault led her to fight for others who kept silent. Yes, she was not afraid to walk alone if it corrected a violation.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Since, changed in technology we must start looking into the Artificial Intelligence take over in social media and in schools. We must start to practice utilizing the internet technology and how to educate others on upcoming artificial intelligence and usage. As we move forward as activist for police oversight, we need to engage in educational information for citizens on police budget and how the A.I will be used in the communities.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
After my advocacy for my military sexual assault I had to become educated on what need to change and how I needed to overcome the barriers of trauma. I continued to help others as I finished out my career and I had many nights of anger. I knew because of my children I had to overcome this anger and use it for the good of the people. This is how I show my children, how to treat others.
