We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kathy Gallowitz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kathy, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Retired LtCol Kathy Gallowitz (B.S. ’81/N) grew up as a Navy ‘brat’ and served nearly 30 years as an Air Force Officer. She is the Founder & CEO of Vanguard Veteran, LLC, author of “Beyond ‘Thank You For your Service,’ The Veteran Champion Handbook” for Civilians and has Masters degrees in Nursing and Political Science. As an award-winning businesswoman with first-hand experience hiring Veterans, Kathy coaches employers how to excel with hiring and retaining Veteran talent in ways that strengthens their workforce. Her “Veteran Talent Academy” equips employers to find, hire and leverage Veterans’ skillsets. Kathy also equips volunteer faith community leaders to build Military Ministries to cultivate mutual support, a sense of belonging and spiritual resiliency for military-connected people. I learned about the need to cultivate civilian Veteran Champions based on my life experience and seeing how much is possible when civilians are educated, encouraged and engaged. Many of these results showcased in my book
Kathy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Most proud of (as a military public affairs officer) creating a never-been-done-before statewide outreach office for the Ohio National Guard in response to 9/11 to educate and engage civilians in support of troops in their families.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Educate social media and newsletter recipients about military culture and resources that civilians can use to help Veterans more. Write articles and pitch to media.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
