We recently connected with Kathy Croman and have shared our conversation below.
Kathy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I was a stay at home mom for years and when the pandemic hit, I needed an outlet and started jewelry making for fun. I’ve always loved jewelry and jewelry making, but hadn’t done it so long. I started making my baroque pearl bangles and posted it on my personal IG. I had so many requests from friends asking me to make it for them. I had orders all over my bed and my husband really urged me to start my business. I was so afraid to take the leap and start a business, because I was afraid it would fail. I walked into Bloomingdale’s one day and this lady behind the jewelry counter complimented my bangles and told her I made them, she immediately introduced herself as the store manager and wanted to do a pop up with me.I knew then I needed to finally take the plunge and take the risk! I did the pop up with them and sold out in a matter of a few hours. I’m now in all of the top luxury resorts across the Hawaiian Islands and also in Nantucket, Palm Beach and Miami Beach.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I love jewelry and always have! It’s so ironic that for someone who is jewelry obsessed is now a jewelry designer. I have to pinch myself sometimes of what I get to do! I started my business by accident during the pandemic. I needed an outlet and started jewelry making and designed my baroque pearl bangles of what I’m known. My pearls are very unique and natural using their original shape. I love the unnatural shape to them giving them this organic look and not your grandmother’s perfectly round pearls you normally see. I’m so proud that after years of being a stay at home mom, I have a successful career that I’m so proud to have built during the pandemic! I took a leap of faith and believed in myself that I would never know if I didn’t try! Now I sell my jewelry at all the luxury resorts across the Hawaiian Islands, Nantucket,Palm Beach and Miami Beach.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I said this in slide #1 of the questions.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I have my good girlfriends to thank for this! They are the ones that really supported me from the very beginning and constantly wearing my jewelry! They have been my walking advertisement and constantly telling friends and friends of friends while wearing my pieces! I’m so grateful to them!
