We recently connected with Kathy Copcutt and have shared our conversation below.
Kathy , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
Yes, I love to travel! Experiencing different cultures has truly enriched my mind and soul. It has transformed my travels into something far more meaningful and introduced me to new perspectives. Most importantly, when traveling, you come to realize that your values, beliefs, and attitudes toward family, time, and friendship are not only less easy to understand but are also incredibly important.
Traveling has expanded my horizons in ways I never expected, deepening my appreciation for the diverse cultures, histories, and customs of other countries. This journey fosters intercultural exchange and understanding, helping to break down misunderstandings and prejudices. I believe it’s especially important to travel with my kids, as they learn so much from these experiences. They also pick up essential skills, like how to read a flight board, catch a train, what to do if they miss their connection, and how to handle situations if we get separated. These experiences teach them problem-solving skills and even life-saving skills that will benefit them in the future.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I began my journey by writing about co-parenting and emphasizing the importance of loving your child more than harboring negative feelings toward your ex. This led me to create a community of single parents who come together for open discussions, seek advice, and form friendships. Over the years, I have transitioned into a lifestyle TV host.
A bit about me: I am a multicultural single mom and a contributing lifestyle TV host nationwide. I have extensive experience in the media industry, having contributed to various publications and TV shows. Currently, I am a contributor for KTLA, CBS, FOX, and others. I’ve also written for platforms like Mom.com, The Pro Age Woman, Be Kind & Co., and Modern Day Living Magazine, among others.
I’m thrilled to share that I am now the new ambassador for Corbo Collection! Corbo Collection offers a portfolio of wellness-inspired luxury hotels, unique products, and exceptional services for an affluent lifestyle. This aligns perfectly with my mission as a single parent to find inner peace, honor myself and my children, and create quality time together in beautiful locations like those offered by Corbo Collection, where we can build lasting memories.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I cannot stress enough the importance of asking questions. Everyone you meet and speak to is offering you their time, so don’t hesitate to ask them questions. There’s no need to feel embarrassed; no question is foolish because everyone has experienced challenges similar to what you may face, and you can learn from their insights.
When starting a new business, some of the most crucial advice is to conduct thorough market research, create a solid business plan, understand your target audience, choose the appropriate legal structure, secure the necessary funding, and be ready to adapt and learn along the way. Always prioritize what’s important to you and focus on building a strong brand identity, while also seeking guidance from mentors and experts when needed. And if your plan doesn’t work out, that’s okay—pivot and don’t fight it. We all learn as we grow.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Everything I do is for my family because I want to demonstrate that goals can be achieved, or at least that I will make every effort to reach them. Most importantly, I want to show them that if I stumble or fall, I will get back up and keep moving forward, because it’s never too late to pursue anything. It’s never too late to start something new.
I also want to show my family the importance of broadening their horizons. By exposing ourselves to diverse cultures through travel, food, art, and literature, I encourage them to try new activities, learn about different perspectives, volunteer in the community, and actively discuss and question the world around them. This fosters curiosity and empathy toward others. Teaching kindness is imperative in our world today.
