We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kathryn Sauser a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kathryn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
In 2017, I began my fitness career, and it quickly gained momentum. I was the girl on Instagram promoting a healthy lifestyle, but behind closed doors, I was struggling with drinking, eating disorders, and self-abuse. By 2020, I knew I couldn’t continue living this way and decided to get sober. This was a crucial turning point—I realized that sobriety was not just about quitting alcohol but about transforming my entire approach to life and career path.
In 2021, I started sharing my struggles on TikTok, and my account skyrocketed. Many women reached out, finding comfort and solidarity in my story. What I had initially seen as my “mess” became my message. This shift was a revelation—it was a gift and a true passion. Nothing lights me up more than witnessing someone’s inner light switch on and watching them move from struggle to strength. This is when SoberFitGirl was born.
When I created SoberFitGirl, I wanted to create a platform that getting sober is unique for everyone. Whether you’re exploring sobriety or committed to a completely alcohol-free life, my app and mentorship offers a non-judgmental space where you can find support and guidance tailored to your needs. My team and myself understand that this journey can be challenging, and we’re here to provide the tools and encouragement you need to thrive.
Our services include 1:1 mentorship with a SoberFitGirl coach, where you receive personalized guidance and support. Additionally, the app features a comprehensive lifestyle plan that covers fitness routines, nutritional advice, and wellness strategies designed to help you achieve your goals.
Sobriety gave me the clarity and space to focus on what truly matters. It allowed me to confront and heal from past traumas, and it provided a foundation for creating a life filled with purpose and fulfillment. The more I embraced vulnerability and shared my truth, the more others felt empowered to say, “Me too.” This mutual exchange of stories allowed us to connect deeply, moving past judgment and comparison.
It’s through this shared vulnerability that we can truly help each other, learn from one another, and foster genuine love and understanding. As we become more open and less afraid to reveal our true selves, we free ourselves and others from the burdens of judgment and isolation, paving the way for authentic connection and freedom. 🥰

Kathryn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I’m particularly proud of how SoberFitGirl has evolved into a vibrant community where vulnerability is met with empathy and support. Witnessing clients embrace their true selves and find empowerment through shared experiences has been incredibly fulfilling. Our platform has turned personal struggles into collective strength, fostering connections that go beyond typical coaching or fitness programs.
For potential clients, followers, and fans, I want you to know that SoberFitGirl is more than just a service—it’s a movement towards a more compassionate and supportive approach to wellness. Ultimately, SoberFitGirl is about creating a space where you can be your authentic self, find support without judgment, and build a life that is both fulfilling and free from the constraints of self-doubt and unhealthy habits.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Early in my career, my focus was solely on weight loss and achieving the “best” body. My approach was centered around fitness routines and dietary strategies designed to help clients shed pounds and sculpt their physique. However, as I continued to work with clients and delve deeper into my own personal journey, I realized that there was something missing.
My own path to sobriety profoundly shifted my perspective on health and wellness. I began to understand that true well-being goes beyond physical appearance—it involves emotional, mental, and spiritual health. This insight was a game-changer for me.
I saw that many of my clients were not just struggling with weight loss but also dealing with deeper issues related to self-esteem, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and alcohol use. I knew that my approach needed to evolve to address these broader aspects of health. So, I decided to pivot my program to incorporate sobriety and holistic wellness.
Adding sobriety into my program was a natural extension of my own experiences and the needs I observed in my clients. It allowed me to offer a more comprehensive approach to wellness—one that supports not only physical fitness but also emotional resilience and personal growth. This shift transformed my business into a platform that addresses the whole person, rather than just focusing on external results.
This pivot has been incredibly rewarding. It’s given me the opportunity to help clients build healthier relationships with themselves and their bodies, fostering a more meaningful and sustainable approach to wellness.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped me build my reputation within the market was my willingness to embrace vulnerability and share my very personal experiences on TikTok and social media. By openly discussing my struggles with alcohol, eating disorders, and self-doubt, I created a space with SoberFitGirl where women felt safe to connect and share their own stories. This authenticity resonated deeply with many people, leading to a sense of solidarity and understanding within the Sober Fit Girl community.
When I shared my journey, I found that many women responded with “Me too,” and this collective acknowledgment fostered a cozy, supportive environment in SoberFitGirl. Our community became a place where honesty and openness are valued, allowing members to confront their shame and embrace healing together.
This atmosphere of mutual support and genuine connection is what sets SoberFitGirl apart. It’s through these honest, vulnerable conversations that we can truly grow and heal. My own healing process has been intertwined with sharing my story, and in doing so, I’ve helped create a space in SoberFitGirl where others can feel empowered to be their true selves.
