We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kathryn Ikle a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kathryn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The Art Club of McKinney is a vibrant and meaningful organization where artists come together in a supportive, judgment-free environment to connect, grow, and create. Through collaboration with incredible partners such as the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts, McKinney Artist Studio Tour, Collin County Master Gardeners, The Cove, Jump Into Art Studios, Scottish Rite for Children, TUPPS Brewery, Empty Bowls, the City of McKinney, North Texas Garden, and many more, we’ve worked on impactful projects that enrich our community and celebrate creativity.
From raising awareness of important causes to fostering mental health through the arts, the club is a place of excellence, educating both members and the wider community about the transformative power of art. Together, we inspire one another, uncover hidden talents, and create a space where artistic expression thrives. These meaningful partnerships and projects showcase the heart of what we do—building connections, championing creativity, and making a difference through the arts.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As President of the Art Club of McKinney, I am honored to lead an organization with such a rich legacy. The club has been in existence for over 100 years, a testament to the vision and dedication of the incredible past presidents who have sustained it through the decades.
My journey with the club began as a member, drawn in by its charm, warmth, and welcoming spirit. When I was invited to step into the role of President, I knew this was where I wanted to channel my energy.
With a degree in Marketing and Art from the University of Memphis and a certification in Museum Studies from Harvard, I bring both corporate and creative experience to the table. In my professional life, I work in the banking, tech, and creative space, but my heart has always been rooted in supporting people who crave connection and growth.
I’ve been part of other arts organizations, but the Art Club of McKinney stands out because of the extraordinary people who make it what it is. These members aren’t just talented artists—they are kind, inspiring, and dedicated human beings. Our board, chairs, and volunteers embody the same spirit, always working hard with smiles on their faces and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
We strive to create a supportive, non-toxic environment where artists can connect, learn, and grow. In today’s world, we aim to be a beacon of light, fostering community and creativity in a positive and uplifting way. It feels deeply fulfilling to use my skills and talents to contribute to something so meaningful, and I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to share this journey with.
My goal is to bring more awareness to the Art Club of McKinney, to shine a spotlight on its remarkable people and mission, and to share its light with others. By amplifying our presence, I hope to inspire even more artists and community members to join us in this creative and welcoming space where we all thrive together.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a deep belief that God has gifted me with unique skills, capabilities, and talents for a purpose. Life is incredibly short—like a vapor—and I don’t want to waste a single moment. I strive to use my gifts to connect with others, inspire positivity, and help make the world a better place. While setbacks and obstacles are inevitable, I see them as opportunities to grow stronger and stay focused on the mission of creating, uplifting, and leaving a meaningful impact in everything I do.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative isn’t just creating art—it’s the community. Artists are birds of a particular feather, and being surrounded by that unique energy is an incredible privilege. It’s a breath of fresh air, a lightness that lifts you away from the heaviness of life, and it reminds me why I’m so passionate about this journey.
