Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kathryn Hoff and Carly Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kathryn and Carly, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
We were both working in a large hospital in the area and kept talking about how we would love to start our own practice. We craved the flexibility to work on our own schedules while growing our families. As dietitians and new moms, we would always bounce ideas off of each other about what worked for us nutrition-wise such as postpartum nutrition, breastfeeding nutrition, baby led weaning, and how we chose to feed our families. Starting a private practice that specializes with women and families was the natural focus for us.
A challenge we faced early in our practice was finding our clients. We started only through social media so it was slow growing. Now being a year in business, we have grown our practice by networking with local moms groups, physical therapists, and maternal mental health professionals. For those starting out with a new private practice, we would stress network, network, network! Do not be afraid to promote yourself to other professionals who have a similar client base.

Kathryn and Carly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are both masters level registered dietitians with almost 2 decades of experience between us. Kathryn was a college athlete and became interested in nutrition when she realized the importance of using food as fuel. Kathryn wrote her master’s thesis on childhood nutrition and food acceptance in selective eaters. She has since worked with children in a large school district as well as adults in the hospital setting.
Carly always was interested in healthcare and helping people. Dietetics was a perfect way to incorporate both. Carly saw how a balanced lifestyle through nutrition could help prevent and or improve chronic illness in many people. While completing her masters in Family and Consumer Sciences, Carly learned how to analyze and address a multitude of nutrition conditions spanning through the life stages. She has worked in an adult hospital for the past 7 years.
We both became interested in family nutrition as we started families of our own. We felt a void in the local nutrition space for both new and seasoned moms.
We offer nutrition coaching regarding fueling for pregnancy, reaching postpartum goals and/or maintaining milk supply, baby led weaning, picky eating, and meal plans and ideas for busy families.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Besides always providing evidence-based nutrition care and staying on top of the nutrition research, the key to success in the nutrition space is to meet clients where they are at. Nutrition is so personal and what works for one client may not work for another. Individualized nutrition plans are our specialty!

How’d you meet your business partner?
We met at our hospital job. We both started on the same day and were fast friends. As we started to grow our families, we knew we wanted to move away from clinical nutrition and start to work with moms like us!
