Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kathleen Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kathleen, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
As a retired teacher, children’s book author, and mother of three, my mission as a writer is to remind children that they are not alone in life. Wether they are struggling with nighttime fears, starting new and unfamiliar activities, or facing daily tasks that may not be super enjoyable; remembering that they are not alone in their journey is my goal.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As the author of “BRAVE,” the award winning book, “Feathers From Above,” and “Dean’s Magical Mix Up: The Principal’s Pin,” I embarked on my literary journey after a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher. My passion for storytelling ignited during my time reading to my students, a cherished memory that laid the foundation for my writing pursuits.
Now residing in the vibrant city of Nashville, TN, alongside my husband and three wonderful children, I draw inspiration from my family. Through my writing, I endeavor to impart a message of love and optimism to my readers, a reminder that they are cherished and that life holds boundless goodness.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish that at the beginning stages of learning how to self-publish books, I would have had the author community and support that I now have. Reaching out to seasoned authors, and asking questions has been one of the most important and valuable assets to my self-publishing journey. Children’s book authors are generally writing their books to share with the world something very important to them, they enjoy sharing and helping others.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As a children’s book author, the most rewarding aspect of writing is when I am able to connect my book with a child’s needs. My third children’s book, Dean’s Magical Mix Up: The Principal’s Pin, is a young middle grade fantasy about a boy who hates going to school. I feel like most kids will be able to relate with this premise. The book begins with a boy named Dean who has a terrible day at school. He goes to bed that night wishing he could make his own decisions and be in charge. The next morning, he awakens as the principal.
Entertainment and connection. Reminding children that they are not alone in their experiences and that they can and will get through their struggles.
