Kathi, appreciate you joining us today. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment that I have made in myself is acting lessons. When I made the decision to become an actress. I knew that I needed training. In order to be competitive, I wanted to learn techniques that would enable me to be comfortable auditioning. Once I received the role, I want to deliver a dynamic performance. In my acting classes I am able to experiment with new methods and try new tecniques that allow me to step oustside of my comfort zone. Acting just isn’ t about memorizing lines. It is about acting naturally. The actor must color in the lines to bring their character to life. The actor’s responsibility is to bring the writer’s words to life. My persona disappears and I become the character that I portray. I received the 2022 Indiemand Filmfest Viewer’s Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress in the District, Maryland and Virginia for my role as a drug dealer. I gave a realistic performance in a role that was far removed from my lifestyle because of my training.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have always wanted to act. I revised the Wizard of Oz script and starred in it as the Wicked Witch in the 6th grade. I joined the drama club in high school and college. After I retired, I wanted to rekindle my love of acting. I researched talent agents in my area. I auditioned and was accepted as a client. I have appeared in a variety industrials, television shows, plays, commercials, scripted plays, movies and web series. Kai Jones began her acting career in 2017. In 2020, I made my theatrical debut in When Boys Exhale. I reprised my role in Atlanta in April 2022. I am a frequent guest host on the 4 Sisters Live Show. Kai is the founder and CEO of a nonprofit organization, Serving Women Across Generations (SWAG). A member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, She is a co- author of 2 books, Daily Dose of Declarations, and the Power of Sisterhood. She is active in a variety of Civic and Cultural organizations and she enjoys family time and teaching Hydro spin. I am living my best life embracing the all challenges and rewards that come into her life.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Acting is extremely rewarding to me but one must have a tough exterior. There have been times when I knew that I excelled in an audition, yet I did not get the role. During height of theCovid epidemic, I had auditioned for a role and then asked to audition a second time. I got the role ,because I didn’t reside in the state where they were filming. They had to select someone else. I once received a role that I really wanted only to discover the project was cancelled. While these instances were very disappointing, I continue to move forward because there are so many roles out there. There is an abundance of opportunities. One must keep their goal in sight, knowing there will be difficulties that can be overcome.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, My mission is to led by example. I want everyone to know age is nothing but a number. There are roles for every age. I started acting later in life. A dream delayed is never a dream denied. It’s never too late to start. Whatever you want to do, just do it! It doesn’t matter what anybody else says. If it’s in your heart, and if it’s what you want, go for it! Make your dream your reality.
